How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The Connecticut Bureau of Certification says any document in a language other than English must come with a notarized translation of all the information in the original, without saying who must translate it; foreign transcripts go instead to one of six named evaluation companies.
Connecticut SDE accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, notarized at checkout.
We translate your teaching certificates, ED 125 and ED 126 statements and transcripts; the evaluation comes from the agency, and three of the six agencies want ATA-certified translators, which we assign on request.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Connecticut's Bureau of Certification asks for a notarized translation of all information in any document not in English, without naming who translates (how teachers from other countries apply), so a notarized certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Connecticut SDE requirements in detail
Translation
Any document in a language other than English must come with a notarized translation of all information in the original (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?).
Who may translate
Notarization
Required by the Bureau for its translations (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?). eVerbary adds it at checkout for $34.90 per order.
Teaching certificates
Mail a copy of your valid licenses and certificates for all years of service (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?).
Forms
ED 125, completed by your preparing institution, and ED 126, completed by a superintendent, district head or Ministry of Education for K-12 experience in the past ten years, both mailed to the Bureau (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?).
Foreign transcripts
Evaluated by ECE, Global Credential Evaluators, the Institute of Foreign Credential Services, Josef Silny & Associates, The Evaluation Company or WES (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?).
Requirements
Similar to Connecticut and out-of-state applicants: an approved preparation program or documented experience, general and professional education, and a content test passed within three years (Certification requirements for teachers from other countries).
Notarized translation for what goes to the Bureau
The Bureau's instructions for teachers from other countries list a copy of your teaching licenses, the ED 125 statement from your preparation program and the ED 126 statements of professional experience, then add in capitals that any document not in English needs a notarized translation of all information in the original (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?).
The article, dated December 17, 2025, does not say who must translate, so a certified translation from a professional service, notarized, meets it.
All information means stamps, seals, handwritten notes and the back of the page. Our certified translation covers every page as it appears, and the notarization is added once per order, so the certificate, the ED 126 from a foreign Ministry and any other letters can go in one order.
Transcripts go to one of six companies
Foreign university transcripts are not sent to the Bureau with a translation; you work with one of six companies, whose evaluation the Bureau reviews (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?).
Their translation rules differ. WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator (WES); ECE accepts a literal translation by anyone or translates under an $85 waiver (ECE).
The Evaluation Company accepts outside translations only from ATA-certified translators (TEC); Global Credential Evaluators accepts the university, the Ministry of Education or an ATA-certified translator (GCE); Josef Silny wants ATA-certified translators for translations made in the US (JS&A). If you use one of those three, see the ATA section below.
Need a certified translation for Connecticut SDE?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Teaching licenses and certificates, for all years of service
- ED 125 Statement of Preparing Higher Education Institution, if completed in another language
- ED 126 Statements of Professional Experience from a Ministry or district abroad
- University transcripts and diplomas, for the evaluation company
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to Connecticut SDE
Mail the copy of your certificates and the ED 125 and ED 126 forms to the Bureau of Certification, each with its notarized translation, and apply online in CECS or on the paper ED 170 (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?).
Send your foreign transcripts and their translations to the evaluation company you choose, under its instructions; the Bureau reviews the company's evaluation (How do teachers from other countries apply for certification in Connecticut?).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Connecticut SDE, what it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.
For Connecticut SDE that means we translate and notarize your documents; the transcript evaluation comes from one of the six companies, and the forms are completed by your institution or employer.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
