Arkansas State Board of Nursing: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Yes, through the evaluation: Arkansas BON asks for a credential evaluation, and Josef Silny & Associates (JS&A), one of the agencies it accepts, takes translations by a translator individually certified by ATA, whom eVerbary assigns on request.

The Arkansas State Board of Nursing has no translation rule of its own: internationally educated RNs need a CES full education, course-by-course report from Josef Silny & Associates or The Evaluation Company (TruMerit is also listed for endorsement), and the agency handles documents in other languages.

Both Josef Silny and The Evaluation Company accept outside translations made in the US only from translators certified by the American Translators Association, and eVerbary assigns one on request.

TruMerit wants nursing transcripts translated by the school or by itself, and the CES report comes from the agency, not from us.

Arkansas BON at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

The Arkansas BON accepts a CES report from Josef Silny or The Evaluation Company (RN internationally educated: examination); Josef Silny accepts outside translations by ATA-certified translators (JS&A) and The Evaluation Company requires an outside translator to be ATA-certified (TEC), so a translation by an ATA-certified translator assigned by eVerbary meets it. Worth knowing about Arkansas BON

Two agencies for exam

Josef Silny or The Evaluation Company; TruMerit too for endorsement.

ATA-certified translator

Both agencies take outside translations only from ATA-certified translators.

Scores go to the agency

English test results are sent to the agency, not the board.

Arkansas BON requirements in detail

Translation

No board rule of its own; the board's rule asks for a credentials review by a board-approved agency (17 CAR 121), and the agency sets the translation rule.

Who may translate

For Josef Silny, outside translations made in the US must come from ATA-certified translators (Josef Silny & Associates: services); for The Evaluation Company, an outside translator must be ATA-certified (The Evaluation Company: avoid delays).

TruMerit requires the school or TruMerit to translate nursing transcripts (TruMerit: CES Professional Report).

Evaluation (exam)

An original CES Full Education course-by-course report, with an English Language Proficiency report, sent directly by Josef Silny & Associates or The Evaluation Company (RN internationally educated: examination).

Evaluation (endorsement)

The same CES report, from TruMerit, Josef Silny or The Evaluation Company; it must be current with the agency (RN internationally educated: endorsement).

English proficiency

Scores go to the agency: TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic (6.5, speaking 7), PTE, OET, MET or Cambridge; no at-home tests. Exempt if you studied nursing in Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the US (RN internationally educated: examination).

Original or copy

Josef Silny wants the transcript, degree and course descriptions sent by the school directly to it, and says translations supplement, not replace, the originals (Josef Silny & Associates: nursing application).

Why the ATA certification matters in Arkansas

Arkansas does not translate or evaluate documents itself; it reads the agency's report (RN internationally educated: examination). For exam applicants the page names two agencies, and both are strict about outside translators.

Josef Silny's nursing application asks for professional, certified English translations (JS&A nursing form), and its services page says translations made in the US must be by ATA-certified translators, while those made abroad must be by accredited or officially certified translators (JS&A).

The Evaluation Company says an outside translator must be ATA-certified, or it translates in-house once your evaluation application is complete (TEC).

A translation by a translator individually certified by ATA satisfies both. ATA certifies only some language pairs into English; see the ATA section below for the languages and prices.

Exam or endorsement: different agency lists

The exam page lists Josef Silny and The Evaluation Company (exam); the endorsement page, for nurses already licensed in another jurisdiction, adds TruMerit (endorsement).

If you choose TruMerit, its rule applies instead: nursing transcripts must come from the school and be translated by the school, or by TruMerit for a fee (TruMerit).

When the agency's letter of completion arrives, you can register with Pearson for the NCLEX (RN internationally educated: examination).

Need a certified translation for Arkansas BON?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

  • Secondary school credential, if the agency asks for it

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to Arkansas BON

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Arkansas BON, what it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.

For Arkansas that means we translate the records the agency asks for; the CES report comes from Josef Silny, The Evaluation Company or TruMerit, ordered by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
