ECFMG Translation Requirements
ECFMG requires a word-for-word English translation of every document not in English — medical diploma, final transcript, transfer transcripts and name documents — made by a government official, a medical school official or a professional translation service, on letterhead, signed, with a certification statement. You may not translate your own documents, and the translation must be submitted with the original-language document.

| What it says | |
|---|---|
| Documents | Final medical diploma, final medical school transcript, transfer-credit transcripts, and documents that change or verify your name (passport, birth or marriage certificate, court order). |
| Who may translate | A government official (for example a consular officer), a medical school official (for example a dean or registrar), or a professional translation service. source |
| Self-translation | “Applicants for ECFMG services are not permitted to translate their own documents.” A notary who is not one of the above does not qualify either. |
| Format | Word for word (no summaries), made from the original or a photocopy (not from a transcription), on letterhead that identifies the company as a translation service, signed with the title of the representative, with a certification statement in English that the translation is correct. |
| Original | Must accompany the translation: “English translations that are not accompanied by the original language document will not be accepted.” source |
| How it is submitted | You upload the translation and the original through MyIntealth with your application, or with an EPIC verification request. source |
| Notarization | Not required on the pages we read. |
Worth knowing
ECFMG verifies the diploma itself with your medical school, and the school sends the final transcript directly. If that transcript is not in English and the school sends no acceptable translation, ECFMG has it translated and charges your account; sending your own compliant translation first avoids that.
ECFMG lists one recommended translation service whose translations it will not reject, and says applicants are not required to use it. Any professional translation service that meets the format above is acceptable. source
How we fit
Our certified translations are word for word, on letterhead that identifies eVerbary as a translation service, signed by our representative with a certification statement in English — the format ECFMG describes. Upload both our PDF and your original to MyIntealth.

Frequently asked questions
Can I translate my medical diploma myself for ECFMG?
No. ECFMG does not accept translations by applicants. It accepts a government official, a medical school official or a professional translation service.
Does the ECFMG translation need to be notarized?
Not according to its translation requirements page. It needs letterhead, a signature and title, and a certification statement in English.
Do I need to use ECFMG's recommended translation service?
No. ECFMG says applicants are not required to use it; a professional translation service that follows its format is accepted.
How much does it cost?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certified. Most orders are delivered within a few hours.
