The pound lost almost all of its dollar value
The Syrian pound has depreciated enormously since 2011, from a few dozen to the dollar to many thousands, and Syria has operated official and market rates that differ substantially.
So a pound figure on a 2010 statement and the same figure in 2024 represent entirely different sums, and a conversion depends completely on the date and the rate chosen. We reproduce the currency and any rate the statement prints and never convert.

A great deal of Syrian money movement, particularly for people who left, runs through hawala operators rather than banks, and their receipts are the only record of it.
Those receipts are documents in their own right and we translate them as what they are, naming the operator, rather than treating them as bank records or discounting them.
