The DUI is the identifier
The DUI — the Documento Único de Identidad — carries a nine-digit number that stays with the person across a change of name and appears on the passport.
El Salvador has moved toward using the DUI as the tax identifier for individuals, so an older document may show a separate NIT where a newer one shows the DUI in its place. Both are reproduced as printed.
Births registered by the municipality
Births are registered by the Registro del Estado Familiar of the municipality, while the RNPN issues the DUI nationally and the migration authority issues the passport.
So a Salvadoran birth certificate is issued by a town hall rather than a national agency, and we name it as printed. The passport shows no parents; the municipal certificate does.
Dollars, and documents that predate them
El Salvador adopted the US dollar in 2001, so financial documents from before then state colones. That has no bearing on a passport but it dates the rest of a Salvadoran file.
Older municipal registry books are handwritten and the certificate reproduces the hand. Where a passage is genuinely illegible we say so rather than guessing.

A Salvadoran minor travelling without both parents requires authorisation, a separate instrument from the passport.
