Grades out of 20, credits, and sessions

A French transcript (relevé de notes) grades each course out of 20, with 10 usually the pass and anything above 16 rare. It lists ECTS credits, the semester or year, and whether a course was passed in the first session or the resit (session de rattrapage), and it may show ADM, AJ or compensé results. Every one of those is translated with its meaning, and grades are kept as printed: converting 14/20 into a letter grade is the evaluator's job.

Secondary transcripts and the baccalauréat results carry subject coefficients that decide how each grade counts; they are translated too. See the French diploma page and what WES asks for.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

Do you convert my grades to a GPA?

No. Grades stay on the 0–20 scale as printed. WES, ECE and similar evaluators do the conversion.

What do ADM, AJ and "compensé" mean?

Admitted (passed), adjourned (failed) and passed by compensation with other grades. The translation spells each out.

Is acceptance by universities, colleges and schools guaranteed?

Yes. Our certified translations are guaranteed to be accepted by universities, colleges and schools in the United States, or your money back. The guarantee covers the translation itself, not the original document or the admission decision, and it does not extend to credential evaluation agencies such as WES or ECE. Full terms are in our refund policy.
