Priznanje očinstva, before the registrar
Croatian acknowledgment of paternity (priznanje očinstva) is made before the registrar, a social welfare centre, a notary or a court, and it requires the mother's consent.
Where the child is over fourteen the child must also consent. It may be made before the birth, and it takes effect on entry in the register of births.
The presumption, and the denial
A child born during marriage or within three hundred days of its end is presumed the husband's, and acknowledgment by another man is not possible until that presumption is challenged.
The challenge is subject to time limits and the social welfare centre has a role in proceedings concerning children. We name the body and the instrument.
The matica rođenih, and e-Građani
The acknowledgment is entered in the matica rođenih, the register of births, and an izvadak issued afterwards shows the father.
Croatia issues extracts electronically through e-Građani with a verification reference, and we transcribe it so the office can check it online.

The OIB, the eleven-digit identification number used for individuals and companies alike, identifies each person and does not change with filiation.
