Njohja e atësisë, before the civil registrar
Albanian acknowledgment of paternity (njohja e atësisë) is made before the civil status office, by notarial act or by will, and requires the mother's consent where the child is a minor.
Where the child is of age, the child's consent is required instead. It is recorded against the civil status entry and a certificate issued afterwards shows the father.
The presumption, and the action
A child born during marriage or within a defined period after its end is presumed the husband's under the Family Code, and acknowledgment by another man requires that presumption to be set aside.
Where a father does not acknowledge, an action to establish paternity lies and the judgment is registered. We name each instrument.
The national register, and the personal number
Albania holds civil status data in a national electronic register, and modern certificates are printed from it with a barcode and verification data even where the underlying entry was handwritten decades earlier.
The personal identification number identifies each person and does not change with filiation. We reproduce it and transcribe the verification data.
