Licence, Master, Doctorat — or Bachelor's

Cameroonian universities adopted the LMD system (licence, master, doctorat) from 2007-08. In French-language institutions the first degree is the licence, normally three years after the Baccalauréat. The universities of Buea and Bamenda, founded in the Anglophone tradition in 1993 and 2010, teach in English and issue English-language Bachelor's degrees, which need no translation.

We translate French degree titles and keep the original term beside the English: "Licence (Bachelor's level)" is a translation choice we explain, not an equivalence we certify. The field, option and distinction are carried over exactly.

Signatures and the provisional certificate

Diplomas take time to print, and many graduates hold a provisional certificate (attestation de réussite or attestation provisoire) signed by the dean or the rector's office. It is translated as an attestation. Professional schools and the grandes écoles issue their own diplomas with their own titles.

A US evaluator will usually want the transcript too: see our Cameroonian academic transcript page, our university translation page and our French page.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

Will you write "Bachelor's degree" for my licence?

We keep "Licence" and may add "(Bachelor's level)" in a note. The formal equivalence is the evaluator's call.

My degree from the University of Buea is in English.

Then it does not need translating.

My diploma has French and English text.

We translate only the French parts and tell you before you pay.

Is acceptance by universities, colleges and schools guaranteed?

Yes. Our certified translations are guaranteed to be accepted by universities, colleges and schools in the United States — and by USCIS, the NVC, courts, government agencies and employers — or your money back. The guarantee covers the translation itself, not the original document or the admission decision, and it covers credential evaluation agencies such as WES and ECE as well. Full terms are in our refund policy.
