How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Winthrop University asks international undergraduates for transcripts, mark sheets and exam certificates in the original language with certified, literal English translations, and every official document must reach Admissions directly from the school, exam board, evaluation service or translation service.
Winthrop University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, and we can send the translation to Winthrop directly.
It also requires a course-by-course evaluation with GPA from a NACES member, which we do not provide.
Winthrop at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Winthrop's undergraduate instructions ask for certified, literal (exact) English translations and list a translation service among those who may send documents directly (application instructions); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary, emailed by us to Admissions, meets that rule. Winthrop requirements in detail
Translation
Certified, literal (exact) English translations of transcripts, mark sheets and examination certificates not issued in English (International undergraduate application instructions).
Who may translate
A translation service is among the senders Winthrop accepts; it does not restrict who translates (International undergraduate application instructions).
How it arrives
Directly from the issuing institution, examining body, evaluation service or translation service; transcripts uploaded through the application portal are not accepted (International undergraduate application instructions).
Evaluation
Course-by-course with grade point average, from a NACES member, sent by the agency; The Evaluation Company and Josef Silny offer Winthrop portals at a discount (International undergraduate application instructions).
Transfer credit
Winthrop does not evaluate or translate foreign transcripts: it needs the official transcript, an official English translation and a WES or NACES course-by-course evaluation (transfer process).
Graduate
Transcripts and transcript evaluations must come directly from the issuing agency; international deadline April 15 for fall (graduate studies).
The translation has to come from the service
Winthrop is strict about the route as much as the wording.
Translations must be certified and literal, and official documents count only when they come directly from the issuing institution, the examining body, the evaluation service or the translation service; Winthrop does not accept transcripts uploaded through its application portal (application instructions).
When you order, ask us in the notes to email the translation to Winthrop's Office of Undergraduate Admission; we send it from our office.
Transfer applicants read the same thing from the other side: Winthrop does not evaluate or translate transcripts from foreign institutions, and an application stays incomplete until the official transcript, an official English translation and a course-by-course evaluation from WES or a NACES member are in (transfer process).
Where Winthrop's pages differ
The undergraduate instructions say Winthrop recommends a NACES member for the course-by-course evaluation (International undergraduate application instructions); the freshmen page says Winthrop requires one (freshmen page); the transfer admissions page names WES or a NACES member (Transfer application process).
All three ask for a course-by-course report with GPA sent by the agency. Ask Admissions if you plan to use an agency outside NACES.

Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and mark sheets
- Examination certificates (national or leaving exams)
- University transcripts and degree certificates
- Grading scale printed with the records
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Winthrop
Winthrop wants the translation sent to its Office of Undergraduate Admission directly by the translation service (International undergraduate application instructions); we email it on request, and your records go to the NACES agency for the course-by-course evaluation.
Questions go to admissions@winthrop.edu; you follow the application in the portal at apply.winthrop.edu, but transcripts uploaded there are not accepted.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Winthrop that means we translate and, on request, send the translation to Admissions; the NACES course-by-course evaluation with GPA is ordered by you from the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
What kind of translation does Winthrop require?
A certified, literal (exact) English translation of each document not issued in English (International undergraduate application instructions).
Can I upload my translation in the application portal?
No. Official documents must come directly from the school, exam board, evaluation service or translation service; portal uploads of transcripts are not accepted (International undergraduate application instructions). eVerbary can email the translation to Admissions.
Do I also need an evaluation?
Yes. Freshmen and transfers submit a course-by-course evaluation with GPA from a NACES member, sent by the agency (International freshmen).
Will Winthrop translate my foreign transcript?
No. Winthrop does not evaluate or translate transcripts from foreign institutions (Transfer application process).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
