UVM requirements in detail

Translation (undergraduate)

Official original transcripts of all secondary and postsecondary education, including final exam results; certified translations if not in English (Catalogue: international student admissions).

Who may translate

The translation option of the applicant's choice (Catalogue: international student admissions).

School transcript

Sent by your school, with an official English translation; apply through the Common App or Coalition App (Scoir) (international applicants).

Transfer credit

After admission, comprehensive course descriptions and outlines translated into English, sent to the Office of Transfer Affairs (Catalogue: international student admissions).

Graduate translation

Transcripts in the institution's language plus a certified literal (word-for-word) translation by the institution, a US embassy or consulate, EducationUSA, or a certified translation agency (Graduate College: how to apply, international).

Graduate evaluation

Optional; without one, UVM evaluates in-house, which takes longer; NACES or AICE members accepted (Graduate College: how to apply, international).

Financial documents

Graduate: documents not issued in English need a notarized English translation (Graduate College: how to apply, international).

Undergraduate: the translator is your choice

UVM's catalogue asks international applicants for official original transcripts of all secondary and postsecondary study, including final exam results, with certified translations of anything not in English, and it says the translation is arranged directly with the option you choose (catalogue).

The admissions page adds that the school sends the official secondary transcript and that an official English translation is required (Undergraduate admissions: international applicants).

College credit comes later.

Once admitted, you send comprehensive course descriptions and outlines, translated into English, to the Office of Transfer Affairs, which prepares a full credit evaluation before you enroll; translations must accompany all original documents (Catalogue: international student admissions). An outside evaluation is optional.

Graduate College: literal translation, three kinds of translator

The Graduate College wants transcripts in the official language of the institution with a certified literal, word-for-word English translation, made by your institution, a US embassy or consulate, an EducationUSA center, or a certified translation agency (Graduate College).

Financial documents not issued in English need a notarized English translation; eVerbary adds notarization for $34.90 per order.

Evaluation is optional. Without one, UVM evaluates international transcripts in-house, which takes longer; it encourages admitted applicants to use a NACES or AICE member and offers a SpanTran discount (Graduate College: how to apply, international).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For UVM that means we translate your transcripts, course descriptions and financial documents; a NACES or AICE evaluation, if you choose one, comes from the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
