How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
The University of Portland lists the secondary records it needs by country, and a transcript issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation, for some countries a separate line-by-line one; it does not say who must translate.
UP accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. The official or attested records themselves must reach UP directly from the issuing school or exam board, and Chinese records come through CDGDC.
UP at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
UP's academic records page asks for an English translation of transcripts in another language and does not restrict who makes it (international academic records); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Policy checked on October 27, 2026.

UP requirements in detail
Translation
A transcript in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation; for Canada and Jordan, a separate line-by-line one (University of Portland: international academic records).
Who may translate
Not stated.
Delivery
UP must receive official or attested documents directly from the issuing school, university or examining board (University of Portland: international first-year students).
Years
In high school: years 9 to 11; finished: years 9 to 12 plus the leaving certificate (University of Portland: international academic records).
Leaving certificates
Baccalauréat, Abitur, Indonesian STTB and Jordanian Tawjihi, each with an English translation (University of Portland: international academic records).
Graduate
Records also come from the issuing source; graduate-specific questions go to intl-adm@up.edu, and UP suggests allowing two months for the visa (University of Portland: international graduate students).
What UP asks for, country by country
UP's records page goes country by country for the systems it sees most (international academic records).
French applicants send transcripts from troisième to terminale and the Baccalauréat, German applicants years 9 to 12 and the Abitur or Fachhochschulreife, Indonesian applicants years 9 to 12 and the STTB, each with an English translation.
For Canadian transcripts in French and for the Jordanian Tawjihi, UP asks for a separate line-by-line English translation, which is how eVerbary lays out every translation, line for line with the original.
Some systems work through exam boards instead. Chinese transcripts and the Huikao are verified and sent by CDGDC; Ethiopian applicants send EHEEE results; Ghanaian applicants WASSCE or SSSCE results with seven strong passes; Saudi applicants a form from the Ministry of Education's regional office.
The record from the school, the translation from you
UP must receive official or attested academic documents directly from the issuing source, and documents submitted become UP's property and are not returned (first-year).
The page asks for the translation to accompany the transcript but does not say who sends it; ask intl-adm@up.edu whether to email it yourself or have it sent. eVerbary can email the translation directly to International Student Services on request.
Need a certified translation for UP?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary transcripts, years 9 to 12
- Baccalauréat, Abitur, STTB or Tawjihi certificate
- Exam results, where your system uses them
- University transcripts, for a graduate program
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UP
The issuing school or exam board sends the official record to UP (University of Portland: international first-year students); the English translation goes with it. If your school cannot attach it, ask International Student Services (intl-adm@up.edu) how to send the translation separately.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does the University of Portland require a certified translation?
It asks for an English translation of any transcript in another language, line by line for some countries, and does not say who must translate (University of Portland: international academic records).
What is a line-by-line translation?
A translation that follows the original line for line, which UP asks for with Canadian and Jordanian records (University of Portland: international academic records). eVerbary translations are laid out that way.
Can I send my own copy of the transcript?
No. UP must receive official or attested documents from the issuing source (University of Portland: international first-year students).
How do Chinese applicants send records to UP?
Through CDGDC, which verifies and sends the transcripts and the Huikao (University of Portland: international academic records).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
