How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
UMSL requires a precise word-for-word English translation of any document your school issues only in another language, arranged by you with an authorized translation service; its examples include state-certified translators and commercial services, and its regional pages accept the stamp of a certified translator.
University of Missouri–St. Louis accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
UMSL asks applicants to contact its office about a service not on its list, and for some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, it wants English documents from the issuer instead of any translation.

UMSL requirements in detail
Translation
A precise word-for-word English translation when your school issues documents only in another language (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
Who may translate
An authorized service: state-certified translators, court interpreters, EducationUSA centers, Translated.com, University Language Services and Missouri services are listed; ask the office about others (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
Self-translation
Not acceptable unless certified by your institution or, in the US, by a notary public, with a stamp on each page (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
Envelope
Official documents in the school's sealed, stamped envelope; a translation outside it comes in an envelope with the translator's stamp across the flap, and each page is stamped (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
English-issuing schools
If your school issues documents in English, third-party translations are not considered; ask the school for the English version (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
Evaluation
Not required; UMSL reviews international transcripts itself. A WES course-by-course report is accepted in place of transcripts only when official transcripts cannot be obtained (International transcripts: general requirements, transfer credit).
Portal and deadlines
Unofficial copies are uploaded to the portal after applying; official documents follow. Undergraduate priority deadlines: July 15 for fall, October 1 for spring (undergraduate applicants).
Authorized services, and a stamp across the flap
UMSL does not translate documents and asks you to arrange the translation with an authorized service at your own expense (translation requirements).
Its list mixes public and commercial providers: state-certified translators, court interpreters, EducationUSA advising centers, Translated.com, University Language Services, the Certified Missouri Foreign Language Court Interpreters and the International Institute of St. Louis.
If you are considering a service not on the list, UMSL asks you to contact its office for advice, so write to intadmission@umsl.edu before you order if you want that confirmed.
The delivery rule is physical.
Official documents come in the school's envelope with its stamp across the sealed flap; a translation that is not inside that envelope must come in an envelope bearing the translator's stamp across the flap, and every page of the translation must be stamped (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
Translations you make yourself count only if your school or, in the US, a notary public certifies them, again with a stamp on each page. Documents sent become university property and are not returned.
Country pages that ask for English from the issuer
UMSL's regional pages set the rule for each country.
The general line is that English translations must bear the stamp of the institution attended or of a certified translator and arrive in a sealed, stamped envelope (the Americas).
Several countries are different: for Saudi Arabia, UMSL wants transcripts, diplomas and exam results issued in English by the university or the Ministry of Education, and third-party translations cannot be considered official academic records (Middle East).
Other entries, such as Qatar, Jordan and Kuwait, likewise list documents issued in English.
For Mexico, the Carta de Pasante is not enough proof of a degree; holders of a Licenciatura or Título send the graduation certificate (International transcripts: the Americas). Check your country's entry before you order a translation.
Transfer credit from course descriptions, not an evaluation
For undergraduate credit from a college abroad, UMSL asks for official transcripts and official course descriptions in English for each class under review, sent in a stamped envelope, emailed by the school, or published on the school's or the government's website (international transfer credit).
If your university cannot issue descriptions in English, UMSL points to its translation guidelines. Faculty review each course, which can take two months or more.
A credential evaluation is not needed; a student who already has a WES report still sends the course descriptions.
US citizens and permanent residents with foreign coursework apply through the Office of Admissions but send their foreign credentials to International Student & Scholar Services.
Need a certified translation for UMSL?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and the diploma or exam results
- University transcripts and degree certificates
- Official course descriptions, for transfer credit
- Bank statement, loan certificate or scholarship letter, if not in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UMSL
After applying you upload unofficial copies, translations included, to the UMSL portal; official documents are then mailed to UMSL International Admissions, Richter Family Welcome and Alumni Center, 5 Arnold B. Grobman Drive, St. Louis, MO 63121 (International undergraduate applicants).
UMSL wants the translator's stamp across the envelope flap and on each page (UMSL Global: translation requirements). eVerbary can mail the translation to UMSL in a sealed, signed envelope: choose the hard copy at checkout, and to have the stamping UMSL describes confirmed before you pay, ask for a free quote and write the requirement in the notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For UMSL that means we translate your documents; we cannot replace the English-language documents that some countries' schools or ministries must issue themselves.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Is eVerbary on UMSL's list of authorized translation services?
No. UMSL's list gives examples, and for a service not on it UMSL asks you to contact its office for advice (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
Can I translate my documents myself for UMSL?
Only if your institution or, in the US, a notary public certifies the translation, with a stamp on every page (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
My school issues transcripts in English. Can I send a translation instead?
No. UMSL does not consider third-party translations when the school issues English documents (UMSL Global: translation requirements).
Do I need a WES evaluation for UMSL?
Usually not; UMSL reviews international transcripts itself. A WES course-by-course report is accepted only when official transcripts cannot be obtained (International transcripts: general requirements).
How do I get transfer credit for courses taken abroad?
Send official transcripts and official course descriptions in English for each course; faculty review them, which can take two months or more (International transfer credit).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
