How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
The University of Alaska Fairbanks publishes no translation rule of its own: international applicants send their official secondary and university transcripts to a NACES-approved evaluation service for a comprehensive course-by-course report, and UAF recommends its custom application with The Evaluation Company (TEC).
UAF's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; TEC asks for a translator certified by ATA, which eVerbary provides on request. The report itself comes from the agency.
UAF at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
UAF accepts a comprehensive course-by-course report from any NACES-approved service (international admission), and WES, a NACES member, accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES translation rules); TEC, which UAF recommends, asks for an ATA-certified translator (TEC translation rules). Worth knowing about UAF
TEC form, discounted
UAF has its own application with The Evaluation Company.
Comprehensive report
Course-by-course, for secondary and university records.
Quebec is not exempt
Only Canadian records outside Quebec skip the report.
UAF requirements in detail
Translation
UAF states no translation rule; foreign transcripts reach it through a NACES report. The translation is what the agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.
Who may translate
Set by the agency: TEC wants an ATA-certified translator; WES and ECE accept a professional service.
Evaluation
Official secondary and/or university transcripts sent to a NACES-approved service for a comprehensive course-by-course report (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student).
Recommended agency
The Evaluation Company, through UAF's custom TEC Evaluation Request Form, at a discounted rate (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student).
Exempt
Transcripts from Canadian institutions outside Quebec (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student).
Immigration documents
UAF's financial statement with supporting documents, a passport copy, your permanent address abroad and city of birth (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student).
The TEC route and the ATA requirement
UAF steers international applicants to The Evaluation Company, which built a custom application for UAF students so they get the right kind of report at a discount (international admission).
TEC accepts outside translations only from a translator certified by the American Translators Association, or translates in-house after your evaluation application.
If you use UAF's TEC form and your documents are not in English, eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request (see below).
UAF also accepts any other NACES-approved service.
WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator or service and not the applicant's own; ECE accepts literal translations, including the applicant's own, or sells an $85 Translation Waiver.
Whichever you choose, ask for the comprehensive course-by-course report UAF names.
Secondary records count too
The report covers your secondary school as well as any university study, so first-year applicants educated abroad need one too (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student).
Only transcripts from Canadian institutions outside Quebec are exempt; records from Quebec, usually in French, go through the evaluation like any other.
Need a certified translation for UAF?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificate
- University transcripts and degree certificates
- Bank letters or sponsor statements supporting the financial statement
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UAF
The translation goes to the NACES agency with your records; with UAF's TEC form, TEC receives your documents and sends UAF the report (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for UAF, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
At UAF that means the comprehensive course-by-course report comes from TEC or another NACES agency; we translate the records it evaluates.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does UAF require a certified translation?
UAF itself publishes no translation rule; it requires a NACES course-by-course report (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student), and the agency sets the translation rule.
Do I have to use The Evaluation Company?
No. UAF recommends its TEC form but accepts any NACES-approved service (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC?
Yes, on request through a free quote with the requirement in the notes, for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) or Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page). ATA certifies no other languages into English.
Are Canadian transcripts exempt?
Yes, except those from Quebec (UAF Admissions: apply as an international student).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
