How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

The University of Houston-Downtown asks international applicants for a certified English translation of every transcript not in English, together with an official evaluation: of secondary school records for freshmen, and an in-depth evaluation from a recognized NACES or NAFSA service for college or university work abroad, before you apply.

It does not say who must translate. University of Houston-Downtown accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; the evaluation comes from the agency.

Full or Divisional Course Analysis for college work.

Before you apply

College evaluations must be done first.

UHD requirements in detail

Translation

Freshmen: a certified English translation of all transcripts not in English. Transfers: a certified translation must accompany the original documents (International transcripts).

Who may translate

Freshman evaluation

Official transcript evaluations of secondary school scores, with mark sheets and graduation date in the original language (International transcripts).

College work abroad

An evaluation by a service recognized by UHD, before applying; only in-depth evaluations ("Full" or "Divisional Course Analysis") are accepted (International transfer credit: official transcript evaluations).

Recognized services

ECE, SDR, GCE, The Evaluation Company, International Education Evaluators (Florida), WES and Josef Silny & Associates; NACES or NAFSA members, list not all-inclusive (International transfer credit: official transcript evaluations).

Graduate

Transcripts from the institution that awarded the bachelor's degree, evaluated by a recognized service before applying (graduate).

Freshman deadlines

Spring: October 30, 2026; summer: April 2, 2027; fall: June 1, 2027 (international admissions).

The in-depth evaluation UHD asks for

For college credit from abroad, UHD does not take a basic report: it accepts only in-depth evaluations, called Full Evaluations or Divisional Course Analysis, which list subjects in transcript order with grades, credits, GPA and lower-division, upper-division or graduate level (International transfer credit: official transcript evaluations).

That report exists only for post-secondary records. UHD asks you to contact International Admissions if you are unsure which type to order, and the evaluation must be done before you apply.

The services set their own translation rules.

WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator; ECE accepts any complete, literal translation or translates internally for an $85 waiver; The Evaluation Company and GCE want an outside translator certified by ATA.

For those two, ask eVerbary for a free quote and say which agency it is for.

Freshmen: original-language records with the translation

International freshmen and freshman-transfers submit official evaluations of their secondary school scores, including mark sheets and the date of graduation in the original language, and a certified English translation of all transcripts not in English (International transcripts).

Keep the translation with the originals when you mail them to International Admissions, One Main Street, GSB 308. Transfers from another US school add the Foreign Advisor's Report and Transfer-In Form.

Need a certified translation for UHD?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school mark sheets and graduation certificate
  • College or university transcripts
  • Bachelor's degree certificate (graduate)
  • Diplomas from every school attended

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to UHD

  • Mail the original-language records, their certified translations and the evaluation to International Admissions, One Main Street, GSB 308, Houston, TX 77002 (International transcripts). For college work abroad, the translation also goes to the evaluation service with your records.

  • We can send the translation directly to the admissions office by email on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For UHD that means we translate your transcripts; the secondary evaluation and the in-depth course analysis for college work are ordered by you from a recognized service.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does UHD accept an eVerbary translation?

UHD asks for a certified English translation and does not say who must make it (International transcripts); a certified translation from a professional service qualifies.

Which evaluation does UHD want for college work abroad?

An in-depth evaluation, Full or Divisional Course Analysis, from a NACES or NAFSA member, before you apply (International transfer credit: official transcript evaluations).

Do freshmen need an evaluation too?

Yes: official transcript evaluations of secondary school scores, with the certified translation if not in English (International transcripts).

When are the freshman deadlines?

October 30, 2026 for spring, April 2, 2027 for summer and June 1, 2027 for fall (International admissions).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
