How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Southern Connecticut State University asks international applicants for official transcripts and a certified evaluation of foreign transcripts and credentials from a NACES-approved organization: document-by-document for undergraduates, course-by-course with grades for graduate applicants.

Southern's evaluation agencies, such as IEE and WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Translate first, then order the evaluation, which we do not provide.

Course-by-course with grades.

Southern requirements in detail

Translation

No rule of its own; the NACES agency sets it (International admissions).

Undergraduate

Official transcripts and a certified document-by-document evaluation from a NACES-approved organization, showing the equivalent of a US high school degree (International admissions).

Partners

International Education Evaluations (IEE) and The Evaluation Company (TEC), at a discounted rate (International admissions).

Transfer

Students who began degrees abroad may submit a course-by-course evaluation for transfer credit; average incoming GPA 2.0 (International admissions).

Graduate

A certified course-by-course evaluation with grades that includes a copy of the transcripts; an undergraduate average of at least B (International admissions).

Two kinds of evaluation

For first-year applicants, Southern wants evidence of the equivalent of a US high school degree: official transcripts plus a certified, document-by-document evaluation of foreign transcripts and credentials from a NACES-approved organization (international admissions).

Transfer applicants who began a degree abroad can add a course-by-course evaluation to be considered for transfer credit.

Graduate applicants need the foreign equivalent of a US bachelor's degree with at least a B average; Southern gives examples such as 14 on a 20-point scale, 80 from Chinese institutions, First Class from Indian institutions and upper second-class honours from British systems.

Their evaluation must be course-by-course with grades and must include a copy of the transcripts evaluated, and the applicant pays the agency (International admissions).

What the partner agencies ask for the translation

IEE accepts translations from a certified translator, not from the client or a notary, and also sells its own.

The Evaluation Company accepts outside translations only from translators certified by the American Translators Association; eVerbary can assign one on request through a free quote, for the languages ATA certifies.

Other NACES members such as WES (professional translator only) and ECE (any word-for-word translation, or an $85 waiver) are also accepted.

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Southern

  • The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records; the agency sends its certified evaluation to Southern, and graduate evaluations must include a copy of the transcripts (International admissions).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Southern that means we translate your records for the agency; the document-by-document or course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Southern Connecticut State require a certified translation?

Southern asks for a certified NACES evaluation, not a separate translation (International admissions). The agency sets the translation rule.

Which evaluation do first-year applicants need?

A certified document-by-document evaluation from a NACES-approved organization (International admissions).

Does Southern have partner agencies?

Yes, IEE and The Evaluation Company, at a discounted rate (International admissions).

What GPA do graduate applicants need?

At least a B average, assessed through a course-by-course evaluation with grades (International admissions).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
