How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Otterbein University requires foreign-language documents to be translated into English by the issuing institution, a certified translator or an English teacher, and accepts official transcripts only directly from the issuing institution.
Otterbein University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
University transcripts from outside the US also need a course-by-course evaluation from a company such as TEC, WES, Scholaro or ECE, whose fee Otterbein reimburses if you enroll; that evaluation is something we do not produce.

Otterbein requirements in detail
Translation
Foreign-language documents translated into English (International applicants).
Who may translate
The issuing institution, a certified translator or an English teacher (International applicants).
Official transcripts
Only directly from the issuing institution, preferably electronically (International applicants).
Evaluation
For university transcripts from outside the US: course by course, from a company such as TEC, WES, Scholaro or ECE; ask a counselor about others (International applicants).
Reimbursement
The evaluation fee is reimbursed to students who enroll at Otterbein (International applicants).
Graduate
All foreign transcripts evaluated course by course through WES, ECE, Scholaro or SpanTran (graduate school).
Deadline
Application and all materials six months before the start; first-year students are reviewed only for fall (International applicants).
Three kinds of translator
Otterbein names three sources for the English version of a foreign-language document: the issuing institution, a certified translator, or an English teacher (International applicants).
A certified translation from eVerbary falls in the second group and comes with a signed certificate of accuracy.
Remember that Otterbein takes official transcripts only directly from the issuing institution, so the translation accompanies the school's official copy rather than replacing it.
An evaluation you may get back
If you studied at a university outside the US, Otterbein asks for a course-by-course evaluation of all post-secondary work from a company such as TEC (formerly SpanTran), WES, Scholaro or ECE, and reimburses that fee if you enroll (International applicants).
The graduate school requires the same report for all foreign transcripts (Graduate school: apply).
Each agency has its own translation rule: WES and Scholaro accept a professional translation, ECE accepts any literal one, and TEC asks for an ATA-certified translator, which eVerbary can provide through a free quote.

- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Otterbein
Your school sends the official transcript directly to Otterbein; send the English translation with your application materials, at least six months before your start (International applicants). For university work abroad, the translation also goes to the evaluation company.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Otterbein that means we translate your documents; the course-by-course evaluation of university work comes from TEC, WES, Scholaro or ECE.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
