How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Mercy University publishes no translation rule of its own: it requires a Foreign Academic Credential Evaluation of every foreign transcript from a NACES or AICE member, course by course for freshmen, transfers and graduate applicants, with a general evaluation of the high school record for transfers.
Mercy's evaluation agencies, such as WES and IEE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You translate first and send the translation to the agency, which writes the evaluation; we do not provide the evaluation.

Worth knowing about Mercy
NACES or AICE
Five agencies named, any member accepted.
Unverified first
Verified report by mid-first semester.
Scandinavia exempt
No evaluation for Nordic diplomas.
Mercy requirements in detail
Translation
Mercy states no translation rule; the evaluation agency sets it.
Evaluation
A Foreign Academic Credential Evaluation (FACE) of all foreign transcripts, from a NACES or AICE member: IFCS, Scholaro, TEC, IEE, WES or any other member (International admissions).
Which report
Freshmen: course-by-course of high school. Transfers: course-by-course of college plus a general evaluation with GPA of high school. Graduate: course-by-course of college (International admissions).
Verification
Unverified evaluations are accepted for the admission decision; a verified one must reach Mercy by the middle of your first semester or you cannot register for the next (International admissions).
Where transcripts go
To the evaluation agency; Mercy needs no copy of foreign transcripts when it has a NACES or AICE evaluation (International admissions).
Waivers
FACE waived for some programs (ask global@mercy.edu), for IB diplomas, which Mercy evaluates itself, and for Scandinavian applicants (International admissions). The catalog also allows internal evaluation (catalog).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
WES requires an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator or translation service and does not accept applicants' own translations (WES).
IEE asks for a certified translator, not the applicant or a notary, and also sells translations (IEE). TEC accepts an outside translator only if certified by ATA (TEC); eVerbary can assign one through a free quote.
Scholaro reads documents in the native language or with a certified translation (Scholaro). Mercy partners with Scholaro and TEC for special rates and lists a discount code for IFCS.
Unverified now, verified by mid-semester
If you send an agency unofficial university transcripts, the agency verifies them with your school, which takes time.
Mercy will decide on an unverified evaluation, but the verified report must arrive by the middle of your first semester to complete your file, or registration for the following semester is blocked (International admissions).
Have the translation ready when you open the agency file so the translation is not what delays verification.
When no evaluation is needed
Applicants with an upper-secondary diploma from Denmark, Norway or Sweden need no credential evaluation: Mercy decides from the official transcripts and offers a 30-credit Scandinavian Block.
IB diplomas and transcripts are evaluated by Mercy itself, and some programs waive the FACE on request (International admissions).
In those cases Mercy reads your records directly; if they are not in English, a certified translation is the usual way to present them.
Need a certified translation for Mercy?

- High school transcripts and diploma, for the course-by-course or general evaluation
- University transcripts, for transfer and graduate applicants
- Degree certificates
- National exam certificates where they complete secondary school
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Mercy
Send transcripts and their translations to the evaluation agency, not to Mercy; the agency emails the evaluation to global@mercy.edu or mails it to the Student Services Support Center (International admissions).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Mercy that means we translate your records for the agency; the NACES or AICE evaluation is ordered and paid by you after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Mercy University require a certified translation?
Mercy itself publishes no translation rule; it requires a NACES or AICE evaluation (International admissions), and the agency asks for the translation. WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).
Which evaluation agencies does Mercy accept?
Any NACES or AICE member; it names IFCS, Scholaro, TEC, IEE and WES (International admissions).
Can I be admitted before my evaluation is verified?
Yes. The verified evaluation must arrive by the middle of your first semester (International admissions).
Do I send my foreign transcripts to Mercy too?
No. Send them to the agency; Mercy does not need a copy when it has a NACES or AICE evaluation (International admissions).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC?
Yes, on request through a free quote: say it is for TEC (TEC rule).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
