How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
MassArt requires official translations and course-by-course evaluations of transcripts or records from outside the US, the evaluation from a NACES or AICE member or a listed provider such as WES, ECE or CED; it does not say who must make the translation.
Massachusetts College of Art and Design accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. The course-by-course evaluation, with grades converted to a US 4-point scale, is something we do not provide.
MassArt at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
MassArt's international students page requires "official translations" of records from outside the US and does not restrict who translates (international students); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation, and WES and ECE, two of its listed evaluators, accept one too (WES, ECE). MassArt requirements in detail
Translation
Official translations of transcripts or records from outside the US (International students).
Who may translate
Not stated (International students).
Evaluation
Course-by-course, from a NACES or AICE member or a listed provider: CED, ECE, The Evaluation Company, IEE, IERF or WES (International students).
What the report shows
Institution, country, length of study and US equivalent, courses by year, grades on an A-F 4-point scale, US semester hours and the US degree equivalent (International students).
Official transcripts
Sent by the school in a stamped, sealed registrar envelope or through the Common App (first-time undergraduates).
Deadlines
Early Action December 1, priority February 15, priority financial aid March 1 (First-time undergraduates: how to apply).
A translation and a detailed evaluation
MassArt asks for both: official translations of every record from outside the US, and a course-by-course evaluation (International students).
The evaluation must name the institution and country, give the length of study and its US equivalent, list courses by year, convert grades and exams to A-F on a 4-point scale, convert course hours to US semester hours and state the US degree equivalent.
Agencies set their own translation rules: WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator, and ECE accepts any complete, literal translation or translates for an $85 waiver; The Evaluation Company asks for a translator certified by ATA, whom eVerbary can assign on request through a free quote.
Evaluations can take up to six weeks (International students). Against an Early Action deadline of December 1 or a priority deadline of February 15 (First-time undergraduates: how to apply), order the translation first so the agency can start the day you apply to it.
Portfolio, transcripts and transfer applicants
Alongside the records, first-time undergraduates submit a portfolio of 12 to 15 recent works, and transfer students 15 to 20, or 20 to 30 if they took college studio classes (First-time undergraduates: how to apply, transfer).
Official transcripts come from the school, sealed and stamped by the registrar or through the Common App; transfers send official college transcripts with their most recent grades.
The I-20 is issued in about three to four weeks after the deposit and documents arrive (International students).

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to MassArt
Send the certified translation to the evaluation agency with your records; the agency sends the course-by-course report to MassArt (International students). We can send the translation directly to the admissions office by email on request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For MassArt that means we translate your records; the course-by-course evaluation with the US grade and credit conversion comes from a NACES or AICE member.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does MassArt require a translation or an evaluation?
Both: official translations and a course-by-course evaluation of records from outside the US (International students).
Which evaluation agencies does MassArt accept?
Any NACES or AICE member, or CED, ECE, The Evaluation Company, IEE, IERF or WES (International students).
How long does the evaluation take?
Up to six weeks, according to MassArt (International students); most eVerbary translations are delivered within a few hours, so the translation need not delay it.
Will eVerbary convert my grades to the A-F scale MassArt wants?
No. The evaluation agency does that conversion (International students); the translation keeps your grades exactly as recorded.
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
