Kirkwood at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Kirkwood's international transcript evaluation request says official English translations are required for non-English documents and refers students to commercial translation services in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area (evaluation request form); those are referrals, and a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Kirkwood requirements in detail

Translation

Official English translations are required for non-English documents submitted to Kirkwood (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

Who may translate

An official English translation service; Kirkwood lists three local services as referrals (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

F-1 admission

Clear and legible uploads to the International Student Portal: high school transcript (or transfer school transcript), passport, financial statement and English scores (how to apply).

Credit evaluation

Kirkwood's Global Learning office evaluates international transcripts itself, from the request form and official transcripts sealed in their original envelopes (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

Outside evaluators

IERF, ECE, WES, ACEI and SpanTran are listed for general purposes, not for Kirkwood credit (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

Processing

4 to 6 weeks, with an email when complete; course descriptions may be requested; originals can be returned by mail if you ask (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

Official translations, and referrals to translation services

The rule sits on Kirkwood's International Transcript Evaluation Request, linked from its international forms page: official English translations are required, and a second page lists referrals for official English translation services in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area, "required for non-English documents being submitted to Kirkwood" (evaluation request).

The three names are local companies; Kirkwood presents them as referrals, not as the only acceptable translators, and asks for no other credential.

A certified translation from a professional service meets that rule wherever you live.

Kirkwood evaluates your credit, from sealed transcripts

For transfer credit, Kirkwood does the evaluation itself.

You fill in the request, list each secondary school and college to be evaluated, and attach only official transcripts sealed in their original envelopes; Kirkwood does not evaluate scanned, faxed or previously opened transcripts, and may ask for course descriptions (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

Everything goes to Global Learning in 2008 Iowa Hall, and the review takes 4 to 6 weeks. You can ask for the originals to be mailed back.

The same form lists IERF, ECE, WES, ACEI and SpanTran, but only for general purposes and expressly not for Kirkwood credit; if you transfer later for a bachelor's degree, that institution makes its own evaluation, which may differ (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

For admission as an F-1 student, the high school or transfer transcript is uploaded as a clear and legible copy to the International Student Portal (Applying for international admission).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Kirkwood that means we translate your records; Kirkwood evaluates the credit itself, and the sealed official transcripts come from your schools.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use one of the translators Kirkwood lists?

Kirkwood lists them as referrals; its rule is an official English translation for non-English documents (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Do I need WES or ECE for Kirkwood credit?

No. Kirkwood evaluates international transcripts itself; the agencies on its form are for general purposes, not Kirkwood credit (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

Can I send scanned transcripts for the credit evaluation?

No. Kirkwood does not evaluate scanned, faxed or previously opened transcripts (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

How long does the evaluation take?

4 to 6 weeks; you get an email when it is complete (International transcript evaluation request (PDF, kirkwood.edu)).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
