How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Ithaca College asks international applicants to send every document written in another language with a certified English translation, and to send the original as well; it does not say who must translate.
Ithaca College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. For transfer credit its registrar also lists members of the American Translators Association among the sources of certified translations.
Foreign college work also needs a course-by-course evaluation from WES, which we do not provide.

Ithaca College requirements in detail
Translation (undergraduate)
A certified English translation of every document in another language, sent with the original (Undergraduate international applicants).
Who may translate
Not stated for admission. For transfer credit the registrar recommends the Ministry of Education or a certified official translator and lists University Language Services, International Documentation Center, NACES members and ATA members (Guidelines for international transfer credit).
Transfer credit
Line-for-line translations, and a certified external course-by-course evaluation for all study outside the US; Ithaca accepts WES (Guidelines for international transfer credit).
Official records
School officials submit secondary transcripts through the Common App, Naviance, Scoir or Parchment, or by mail; college transcripts come in sealed envelopes from the institution (admissions, registrar).
Graduate
Official transcripts in the original language sent by the issuing registrar, with a certified English translation (graduate catalog).
Graduate evaluation
WES course-by-course for Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology; other programs may ask for a NACES report (graduate international).
Kept on file
Documents submitted for admission or credit become the property of the College (Guidelines for international transfer credit).
First-year applicants: the original and the translation
Ithaca asks for the secondary school transcript covering every year, official leaving exam results and any college transcripts, and every document written in another language must come with a certified English translation; both the original in your first language and the translation are required (international applicants).
The transcript and an optional recommendation from the principal, school head or counselor count as official only when a school official sends them through the Common App, Naviance, Scoir or Parchment, or mails them; until then the application stays incomplete (Undergraduate international applicants).
Because the school sends the transcript, plan the translation with your counselor: the translation travels with the original-language record, so it is easier if the counselor has the certified translation before submitting.
Transfer credit: line-for-line and a WES report
The registrar's international guidelines are stricter.
Official transcripts must arrive from each institution in sealed envelopes; documents in another language need line-for-line translations; if the university does not issue English versions, Ithaca recommends a translation by your country's Ministry of Education or a certified official translator, and it names University Language Services, International Documentation Center, NACES members and ATA members as sources (transfer credit).
A certified external course-by-course evaluation is expected for all postsecondary study outside the US, and Ithaca accepts WES. If the degree, date or major is missing from the transcript, add an official copy of the diploma.
WES has its own translation rule: an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator or service. One line-for-line certified translation can serve both Ithaca and WES; see translation for WES.
Graduate programs
Graduate applicants who studied abroad send official transcripts in the original language straight from the issuing registrar, and a certified English translation must accompany them (graduate catalog).
Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology and Speech-Language Pathology with Teacher Certification require a WES course-by-course evaluation; other programs may ask for one from any NACES member (graduate international students).
Physician Assistant Studies admits only US citizens and permanent residents (Graduate catalog: international applicants).

Uploading the translation to Ithaca College
First-year applicants apply through the Common App and then get an IC Connect account; official transcripts and recommendations reach Ithaca from a school official, electronically or by mail (Undergraduate international applicants).
For transfer credit, transcripts arrive in sealed envelopes from each institution, and the WES course-by-course evaluation is sent to Ithaca; documents in your possession are accepted only in sealed, unopened envelopes (Guidelines for international transfer credit).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Ithaca College that means we translate your records; the WES course-by-course evaluation for transfer credit or for OT, PT and speech-language pathology is ordered by you from WES.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Ithaca College accept a translation from a translation company?
Yes. Admissions asks for a certified English translation and does not limit who makes it (Undergraduate international applicants); for transfer credit the registrar lists translation companies and ATA members (Guidelines for international transfer credit).
Do I need to send the original-language transcript too?
Yes. Ithaca requires both the original in your first language and the English translation (Undergraduate international applicants).
What is a line-for-line translation?
One that follows the original line by line, which the registrar requires for transfer credit (Guidelines for international transfer credit). Our certified translations keep the layout of the original.
Which graduate programs require WES?
Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and both Speech-Language Pathology programs; others may ask for a NACES evaluation (Graduate catalog: international applicants).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
