How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

College of the Desert publishes no translation rule of its own: F-1 applicants scan transcripts from the schools they attended, and those with college or university credit from outside the US are asked to submit a certified foreign transcript evaluation report, which COD uses to place them in courses and substitute degree requirements.

College of the Desert's evaluation agencies, such as ECE, IERF and WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You order the translation first and send it to the agency; the evaluation report is something we do not produce.

College of the Desert requirements in detail

Translation

College of the Desert states no translation rule; the translation is what the evaluation agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency (see below).

Evaluation

A certified foreign transcript evaluation report, if you have college or university credit from outside the US, submitted with your application (How to apply as an international student).

Agencies listed

ACEI, APIE, AERC, ECE, ERES, IERF and WES, as examples; contact the office to confirm the one you use will be approved (Foreign transcript evaluation agencies (PDF)).

Before counseling

Foreign coursework must already be evaluated and the official results on file with Admissions and Records (catalog).

Application

Scan your passport, proof of funding, English proof and transcripts from previously attended schools, then apply online; admission is rolling (How to apply as an international student).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

COD names its agencies only as examples, so the translation rule depends on the one you choose.

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency, does not accept translations by applicants and does not translate documents itself.

IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original and does not require them to be certified or notarized; COD's list adds that you should request a detailed report from IERF (Foreign transcript evaluation agencies (PDF)).

ECE asks for complete, literal translations and lets applicants translate themselves; it also sells an $85 Translation Waiver, under which ECE translates internally for the report and no translation is delivered to you.

The list also includes ACEI, APIE, AERC and ERES.

Its note for WES says to indicate on the WES application that the evaluation is for a California teaching credential or permit (Foreign transcript evaluation agencies (PDF)); ask COD's International Education Program whether that still applies before you order.

How College of the Desert uses the report

The International Education Program uses earlier coursework from abroad to decide which COD courses you may take, and may substitute some of it for COD degree requirements; for that it asks for the report with your other application materials (How to apply as an international student).

The 2026–2027 catalog adds that before you meet a counselor to have credits evaluated, the foreign coursework must already be evaluated by a service and the official results must be on file with Admissions and Records.

Translate every page, stamp and grade first, so the agency file is complete when you open it.

Need a certified translation for College of the Desert?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University or college transcripts, for the evaluation report
  • Degree or diploma certificates
  • Secondary school transcripts, scanned for the application
  • Bank statement or financial guarantee

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to College of the Desert

  • For credit from abroad, the translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records; the official report then goes to COD's International Education Program with your application, and must be on file with Admissions and Records (how to apply, catalog).

  • Other supporting documents are scanned and submitted with the online application (How to apply as an international student).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For College of the Desert that means we translate your records for the agency; the foreign transcript evaluation report is ordered by you from the agency after the translation.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does College of the Desert require a certified translation?

COD itself publishes no translation rule. It asks for a certified foreign transcript evaluation report (How to apply as an international student), and the agency sets the translation rule: WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).

Which evaluation agency should I use?

COD lists ACEI, APIE, AERC, ECE, ERES, IERF and WES as examples and asks you to confirm with its office that your agency will be approved (Foreign transcript evaluation agencies (PDF)).

Do I need an evaluation if I only finished high school abroad?

COD's request applies to applicants who earned college or university credit outside the US (How to apply as an international student).

When should the report be on file?

With your application materials, and in any case before you meet a counselor about foreign credits (how to apply, catalog).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
