How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Chicago State University requires every international academic credential to be evaluated by a NACES-approved organization, with the report showing the equivalent of a US high school diploma and a cumulative 2.5 GPA, and every document from outside the US must come with that evaluation.
Chicago State's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and Educational Perspectives, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You translate first and send the translation to the agency; the evaluation itself is something we do not produce.

Chicago State requirements in detail
Translation
No rule on the current page; documents from outside the US must be accompanied by a NACES evaluation (International students).
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency; see below.
Evaluation
All international credentials, by a NACES-approved organization, showing high school diploma equivalency and a cumulative 2.5 GPA (International students).
Common providers
Educational Perspectives, ECE, International Education Evaluations, Josef Silny & Associates, The Evaluation Company and WES (International students).
English
TOEFL iBT 68, IELTS 6, PTE-A 47 and others, unless you studied in an English-speaking country or have 24 US college credits (International students).
Older packet
A downloadable packet still online names only ECE and WES and asks for a translation by a "nationally known credential translator" (application packet).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency, and does not translate.
ECE accepts any complete, literal translation, including your own, or translates internally for an $85 waiver.
Educational Perspectives accepts translations from a reputable agency or certified professional translator, and IEE accepts certified translators but not translations by the client or a notary.
Two of the six are stricter: Josef Silny asks that US translations be made by ATA-certified translators, and The Evaluation Company requires an outside translator certified by ATA. For those, ask eVerbary for a free quote for an ATA-certified translator and say which agency it is for.
Where Chicago State's pages differ
The current international students page accepts any NACES-approved organization and lists a $50 application fee.
The older international application packet, still linked on the site, accepts evaluations only from ECE or WES, asks freshmen for an official English translation by "a nationally known credential translator" and lists a $100 fee.
Choosing ECE or WES satisfies both pages; if in doubt, ask admissions@csu.edu.

Uploading the translation to Chicago State
The translation goes to the NACES agency with your records; the agency's evaluation accompanies your documents to the Office of Admissions (International students).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Chicago State that means we translate your records; the NACES evaluation showing diploma equivalency and GPA is ordered by you from the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Which evaluation agencies does Chicago State accept?
Any NACES-approved organization; common providers are Educational Perspectives, ECE, IEE, Josef Silny, The Evaluation Company and WES (International students).
What must the evaluation show?
Equivalency to a US high school diploma and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (International students).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC or Josef Silny?
Yes, through a free quote, for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) or Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page). ATA certifies no other languages into English.
Is the application fee $50 or $100?
The current page says $50; the older packet says $100 (International students; packet).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
