How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Northeastern Illinois University requires official transcripts from every high school, college or university attended outside the US to be evaluated, either by an external company that is a current NACES member or by NEIU's Office of International Programs, which evaluates for free once you show funding for a year; graduate applicants follow the same rule.
NEIU's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You translate first and send the translation with your records; the evaluation is something we do not produce.
NEIU at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
NEIU asks for an evaluation from a NACES member or its Office of International Programs (undergraduate checklist), and WES, a NACES member, accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES rule), as do ECE and Educational Perspectives. Policy checked on October 27, 2026.

NEIU requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own; foreign transcripts are read through an evaluation (International undergraduate application checklist).
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency; see below.
Evaluation
By a current NACES member, or by NEIU's Office of International Programs (International undergraduate application checklist).
Free OIP evaluation
If you first show the resources to cover a year of study at NEIU; ask international-programs@neiu.edu (International undergraduate application checklist).
High school record
Needed if you have fewer than 24 semester hours of university credit (International undergraduate application checklist).
Graduate
The same evaluation rule for all universities attended abroad; $30 fee for most master's programs, $89 for the MBA and MSA (graduate checklist).
NEIU's own evaluation, or a NACES agency
NEIU gives you two ways to have foreign transcripts evaluated: an outside company that is a current NACES member, or NEIU's Office of International Programs, which does it for free once you have shown that you can cover all costs of a year at NEIU (International undergraduate application checklist).
The checklist does not say how OIP handles documents not in English; ask OIP before you choose that route.
With an external agency, the agency's translation rule applies, and the report is one you keep for other schools or employers.
What the NACES agencies ask for the translation
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency, and does not translate documents itself.
ECE accepts any complete, literal translation in the same format as the original, including your own, or translates internally for an $85 waiver.
Educational Perspectives, in Chicago, accepts translations from a reputable translation agency or a certified professional translator. Translate the transcripts, the diploma and the grading legend before you open the agency file.
Need a certified translation for NEIU?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school transcripts and diploma (fewer than 24 university credits)
- University transcripts and degree certificates
- Official bank letters from each sponsor's bank, if not in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to NEIU
With an external evaluation, the translation goes to the NACES agency with your records, and the agency sends its report to NEIU. With the free OIP evaluation, ask the Office of International Programs how to send your records and translations (International undergraduate application checklist).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For NEIU that means we translate your records; the evaluation comes from a NACES agency or from NEIU's Office of International Programs.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does NEIU evaluate foreign transcripts itself?
Yes. Its Office of International Programs evaluates for free if you first show funding for a year of study (International undergraduate application checklist).
Which outside agencies does NEIU accept?
Any current member of NACES (International undergraduate application checklist), such as WES, ECE or Educational Perspectives.
Do I need my high school transcript?
Only if you have earned fewer than 24 semester hours of university credit (International undergraduate application checklist).
Is the rule the same for graduate applicants?
Yes: NACES or OIP evaluation of every university attended abroad (International graduate application checklist).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
