How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Bronx Community College asks international transfer students for proof of secondary graduation and an outline of their previous transcripts together with a certified English translation, and it does not say who must translate.

Bronx Community College (CUNY) accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

The records are then evaluated by CUNY's central office or by an outside service such as The Evaluation Company, which has a discounted application for BCC students; the evaluation is something we do not provide.

BCC at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

BCC's Registrar asks for previous transcripts together with a certified English translation and does not restrict who translates (transfer credit evaluation); CUNY's guidelines for its colleges list a translation agency among accepted translators (CUNY translation guidelines). Worth knowing about BCC

The Registrar's wording for foreign transcripts.

$170 TEC evaluation

30 credits maximum

Transfer credit toward a 60-credit degree.

BCC requirements in detail

Translation

Proof of secondary graduation and a chronological outline of previous school or university transcripts, together with a certified English translation (Registrar: transfer credit evaluation).

Who may translate

BCC does not say. CUNY's guidelines accept a translation agency, consulate or your school, not you or your family (CUNY Document Translation Guidelines (PDF)).

Evaluation

Applicants educated abroad choose CUNY's University Application Processing Center or a listed evaluation service (How to apply: required international documentation).

TEC discount

The Evaluation Company has a custom BCC application that selects the right report at $170 (How to apply: required international documentation).

Non-degree students

College study outside the US needs a course-by-course evaluation with GPA from an approved agency (Non-degree students).

Transfer credit limit

Up to 30 credits from a regionally accredited institution or international equivalent toward a 60-credit associate degree (Registrar: transfer credit evaluation).

Timing

Students with international documents need more time, since BCC waits for the foreign credentials to be evaluated (FAQ).

A certified translation and an outline of your schooling

BCC's Registrar words its rule for international transfer students precisely: proof of graduation from an accredited secondary school or its foreign equivalent, plus a complete and accurate chronological outline of previous school or university transcripts, together with a certified English translation (Registrar: transfer credit evaluation).

Translate every transcript in that outline, including the grading legend, and keep the order the same as the originals so the evaluator can match them.

Credit from abroad is capped like any other transfer credit: at most 30 credits toward a 60-credit associate degree, and only college-level courses; programs such as Nursing and Radiologic Technology add their own rules (Registrar: transfer credit evaluation).

CUNY's free review or TEC's BCC application

For admission, BCC lets applicants educated outside the US have their transcripts evaluated by CUNY's central processing center or by an outside service from CUNY's list (How to apply: required international documentation).

The Evaluation Company built a custom application for BCC students that picks the right kind of report at a discounted $170.

TEC sets its own translation rule: an outside translator must be certified by ATA (TEC rule), and eVerbary can assign one through a free quote.

Either way, plan for time: BCC's FAQ says students with international documents wait longer because Admissions waits for the evaluation (Admissions FAQ).

Students with foreign credentials may also be asked to take the CUNY writing assessment (How to apply: required international documentation). CUNY's own rules are on the CUNY page.

Need a certified translation for BCC?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school diploma or leaving certificate
  • Secondary school transcripts, every year
  • University transcripts, for transfer credit
  • Grading scale or legend of each transcript

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to BCC

  • Apply through CUNY and upload the documents with their translations to your application; once CUNY has evaluated them you can contact BCC Admissions at Admission@bcc.cuny.edu (Admissions FAQ). Official academic records are due later (How to apply: required international documentation).

  • If you use TEC or another agency, send the translation to the agency with your records; the agency sends its report.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For BCC that means we translate your diploma and transcripts; the CUNY or agency evaluation, including TEC's $170 report, is ordered separately.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of translation does Bronx Community College want?

A certified English translation of your previous transcripts (Registrar: transfer credit evaluation). BCC does not restrict who makes it, and CUNY's guidelines accept a translation agency (CUNY Document Translation Guidelines (PDF)).

Do I need to pay for an evaluation?

Not necessarily: CUNY's processing center can evaluate your records, or you can use an outside service such as TEC, which charges BCC students $170 through its custom application (How to apply: required international documentation).

How many credits from abroad can BCC accept?

Up to 30 transfer credits toward a 60-credit associate degree, from regionally accredited institutions or their international equivalent (Registrar: transfer credit evaluation).

I want to take classes as a non-degree student. What do I need?

If you attended college outside the US, a course-by-course evaluation with GPA from an approved agency, uploaded with the application (Non-degree students).

Why is my application taking longer?

BCC waits for the evaluation of foreign credentials before it can process applicants with international documents (Admissions FAQ).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
