Bowdoin requirements in detail
Translation
The transcript should be translated into English; Bowdoin prefers a translation from a school or a certifying official (international students).
Who may translate
A school official (teacher, counselor) or a certified organization, which prepares and sends it (FAQ).
Required?
Preferred, but not required for the transcript to be reviewed (Admissions FAQ).
Who sends documents
Not the applicant: transcripts and reports come from a school official or recommender (Admissions FAQ).
Evaluation
Not mentioned (International students).
Where Bowdoin's pages differ
Bowdoin's international page says your transcript should be translated into English and that it prefers a translation from a school or a certifying official (international page).
The admissions FAQ is softer: Bowdoin encourages and prefers a translation, but it is not a requirement for the transcript to be reviewed (FAQ). Both point the same way on who translates: your school, or a certified organization.
The translation has to arrive from the translator
Bowdoin does not accept transcripts, recommendations or reports sent in by applicants, and its FAQ says a translation must be prepared and sent by a school official or a certified organization (Admissions FAQ).
If eVerbary translates your transcript, ask in your order for the translation to be emailed directly to Bowdoin admissions; your school sends the transcript itself.

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Bowdoin
Your school official sends the transcript and school report; the translation reaches Bowdoin from the school or from the certified organization that prepared it (Admissions FAQ). eVerbary can email it to the admissions office on request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Bowdoin that means we translate your transcript and send it to admissions on request; we do not send the transcript itself, which comes from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
