How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee require applicants schooled outside the US and Canada to submit a course-by-course credential evaluation with a GPA, sent directly by the agency; both say a translation alone will not complete the application.

Berklee's evaluation agencies, such as ECE, IERF and WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, while The Evaluation Company asks for a translator certified by ATA, which eVerbary provides on request.

You order the translation first and send it to the agency; the evaluation itself is something we do not produce.

Worth knowing about Berklee

Evaluation, not translation

A translation alone does not complete the file.

GPA required

Every course-by-course report must show one.

IB diploma exempt

So are schools with US accreditation.

Berklee requirements in detail

Translation

No rule of its own; Berklee will not accept a translation in place of the evaluation (Credential evaluation (Berklee)). The agency needs it.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency; see below.

Evaluation

Course-by-course with GPA for every school attended outside the US and Canada, sent directly by the agency (international applicants).

Agencies (Berklee)

The Evaluation Company and ECE recommended; IERF and other NACES members accepted (Credential evaluation (Berklee)).

Agencies (Boston Conservatory)

SpanTran and ECE recommended; WES and IERF accepted (Boston Conservatory).

Exemptions

IB diploma holders, and schools accredited by a US accreditor, which may send transcripts directly (Credential evaluation (Berklee)).

Deadlines

Berklee fall: Early Action November 1, Regular Action January 15 (deadlines); Boston Conservatory materials: December 1 early, January 15 regular (Credential evaluation (Boston Conservatory at Berklee)).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

Berklee explains that evaluation and translation are not the same: the agency also checks that you attended the schools and earned the honors you list, so Berklee takes no transcripts from applicants and no translation instead of a report (Credential evaluation (Berklee)).

The translation therefore goes to the agency.

ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations in the original format, including your own, or translates internally for an $85 waiver; IERF wants typed, line-by-line translations and may ask for a professional one; WES, accepted by Boston Conservatory, wants a professional translator and no self-translation.

The Evaluation Company, which Berklee recommends and whose pathway lets you pick the Berklee campus and say whether documents need translating, asks for an outside translator certified by ATA or translates itself.

For TEC, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA: ask for a free quote and say it is for TEC and Berklee.

Which report for which record

Berklee wants a course-by-course report with GPA for every institution. Still in secondary school: all marks to date. Secondary school only: course-by-course of that record.

Less than one year of university, college or conservatory: course-by-course of both.

More than one year, or more than one institution: course-by-course of each college and a general report of the final secondary record (Credential evaluation (Berklee)).

Applicants not yet graduated must prove graduation before attending, and a school with no marks needs an official letter from the school or Ministry of Education saying so.

Evaluations take several weeks and the application is incomplete until every report arrives, so start early; you may audition or interview before the evaluation is in (Credential evaluation (Berklee)).

Need a certified translation for Berklee?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Berklee

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Berklee, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Berklee that means we translate your records for the agency; the course-by-course evaluation with GPA is ordered by you and sent by the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
