Barnard requirements in detail

Translation

Certified English translations along with the official documents, for any transcript or document not issued in English (International applicants).

Who may translate

Third-party organizations that regularly provide these translations; your school may point you to one (International applicants).

Evaluation

None required.

Official records

Sent by your school via e-docs or mail; certificates or copies of certificates are not required and should not be submitted (International applicants).

Exam results

Students who took external national or board exams submit the results plus transcripts for each year of secondary study (International applicants).

Transfers

Official course descriptions for every college course, uploaded to the Common App; Barnard does no pre-evaluation of credit (transfer applicants).

Transcripts and exam results, not certificates

Barnard is specific about what to send: an official transcript or exam results, sent by your school through e-docs or mail, and not certificates or copies of certificates, nor other academic or activity certificates (International applicants).

If you took national or board exams, send the results and a transcript for each year of secondary study; if you apply in your final year, name the certificate or degree you expect and when.

Each of those documents, if not in English, goes with a certified translation.

Who translates

Barnard expects translations to come from outside your school: it says your school may be able to guide you to third-party organizations that regularly provide these translations, and asks you to contact admissions with questions (International applicants).

Because Barnard asks for no evaluation, the committee reads the translation directly, so subject names, marks and the grading scale must match the original line by line.

Transfers: course descriptions

Transfer applicants, with 24 to 60 transferable credits, submit official course descriptions for all college courses, taken from each college's catalog and marked with the course title, uploaded under Program Materials; missing descriptions delay review.

Barnard issues its Transfer Credit Evaluation only after admission (Transfer applicants). Descriptions in another language need translating too.

  • College course descriptions, for transfer applicants

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Barnard

  • Your school sends the official transcript or exam results via e-docs or mail; send the certified translation along with them, or ask admissions how to add it to your Barnard Applicant Portal (International applicants).

Transfers upload course descriptions to the Common App Program Materials section (Transfer applicants).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Barnard that means we translate your transcripts, exam results and course descriptions; your school still sends the official records, and Barnard decides transfer credit after admission.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Do transfer course descriptions need translating?
