CGFNS — the body behind the CGFNS Certification Program and VisaScreen, which you may also see operating under the name TruMerit — takes a different line from most evaluators. As published in September 2026, it expects academic records for nursing to be translated by the educational institution the applicant attended, and where the school cannot do it, CGFNS will translate them itself for a fee. Secondary school diplomas are treated more loosely and may be translated by the applicant or someone they choose.
So for a nursing transcript going to CGFNS, the honest answer is often that we are not the right supplier: ask your school first. We would rather say that here than take an order you did not need to place.
Where a nurse does need a professional translation
Plenty of the file falls outside that rule, and state boards of nursing set their own requirements independently of CGFNS:
- The nursing licence or registration issued in your home country
- Certificates of good standing, or of no disciplinary action, from the regulator
- Employment and clinical experience letters, and course descriptions when a board questions clinical hours
- Birth, marriage and name-change documents where the name on the diploma is not the name on the passport
- Police certificates and the immigration file that follows
Names are the quiet problem in a nursing file
A licence issued under a maiden name, a diploma with a different transliteration, a passport with a third spelling — that combination is extremely common and it stalls files. We translate a file as a file, keeping one spelling per person and flagging where the originals genuinely disagree, so a board sees the discrepancy explained rather than discovering it.
If it needs an affidavit swearing that two names belong to the same person, that gets translated with the rest.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a translation service for my CGFNS application?
Possibly not for the nursing transcripts: CGFNS expects those to be translated by the school you attended, and will translate them itself for a fee if the school cannot. Check its current requirements, then come back for whatever falls outside that.
Who translates my nursing licence and good-standing certificate?
Those are ordinary certified translations and we handle them. State boards of nursing set their own rules, so confirm with the board you are applying to.
My diploma and my passport have different names.
Very common. We keep one spelling per person across the file and flag the discrepancy, and we translate the affidavit or marriage certificate that explains it.
