Reconocimiento, and where it can be made
Guatemalan acknowledgment may be made in the birth registration, by escritura pública before a notary, by a formal declaration before a judge, or in a will, and it is irrevocable once made.
RENAP records it against the birth inscription and a certificate issued afterwards shows the father. We name the instrument and the notary or court that produced it.
Judicial filiation, and the presumption
Where a father does not acknowledge, an action for filiación lies, and Guatemalan courts may draw an adverse inference from an unjustified refusal of DNA testing.
A judgment and a voluntary acknowledgment carry different weight if later contested, and we name which the document is.
RENAP, and the municipal layer
RENAP took over the civil registry from the municipalities at the end of the 2000s and migrated older records, so a RENAP certificate may restate an entry originally made in a municipal book decades earlier.

The CUI, and Maya surnames
The CUI, the thirteen-digit code on the DPI, identifies each person and does not change with filiation.
