The judgment, and the Registro Civil
A Costa Rican divorce is granted by a court, or by notarial route where the spouses agree, and recorded with the Registro Civil — which sits under the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones rather than a ministry.

The divorce is an annotation on the marriage record
The dissolution is recorded as a marginal annotation against the marriage entry rather than as a standalone certificate, so a copy of the certificación de matrimonio issued before the divorce shows a marriage still in force — with nothing on it to suggest anything is missing. What an office usually wants is a current copy from the Registro Civil showing the annotation, alongside the judgment itself.
