Read the RFE before you order anything
An RFE names the documents it is asking about and says what is missing, and the fix depends entirely on which of these it is:
- A document was filed with no translation. Straightforward: it needs a complete, certified English translation.
- A translation was filed with no certification. The translation may be fine; what is missing is the signed statement.
- The certification was inadequate. 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) requires the translator to certify that the translation is complete and accurate and that they are competent to translate from the foreign language into English. A certification that omits the competence statement is the classic failure.
- The translation was incomplete. Usually a reverse side, a marginal annotation, a stamp or a second page that was never translated because nobody realised it was part of the document.
- Something else entirely. Many RFEs mention translations in passing while asking for something substantive. That part is for your attorney, not for us.
What "complete" catches people out on
The most common reason a translation is called incomplete is that only the front of a document was translated. Civil registries in much of the world print the grading key, the ownership history, the annotations or the authentication stamps on the reverse, and a marginal note recording a later marriage or a correction can change what the certificate proves.
So when you send us the document to fix, send every page and both sides of each one, even the sides that look blank. If a page carries nothing, the translation can say so — which is itself a fact the officer can rely on.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.

Do I need the document retranslated, or just a new certification?
