How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Ohio University's Undergraduate Admissions asks international first-year and transfer applicants for a certified or attested English translation of every record not in English, and does not say who must translate.
Ohio University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary for undergraduate admission.
The Graduate College is stricter: it accepts translations only from the degree-issuing university, a NACES evaluation organization, an EducationUSA office or the Ministry of Education, which excludes us, and transfer applicants also need a NACES course-by-course evaluation, which we do not provide.
Ohio University at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Undergraduate Admissions asks for a certified or attested English translation when the original is not in English (how to apply), repeated for the official records due before classes (admitted students); neither restricts who translates, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it.
Graduate admission follows a different rule (see below). Policy checked on October 26, 2026.

Worth knowing about Ohio University
Two rules
Undergraduates: certified or attested. Graduate: issuer, NACES or Ministry.
Official before classes
Unofficial records for the decision, official by day one.
China
Records in Chinese and English, certified by the school.
Ohio University requirements in detail
Translation (undergraduate)
A certified or attested English translation of every record not in English, first-year and transfer (How to apply as an international student).
Who may translate (undergraduate)
Not stated (How to apply as an international student).
Who may translate (graduate)
Only the degree-issuing university, a NACES organization, an EducationUSA office or the Ministry of Education, unless noted for a country (Graduate College).
Official records
Uploaded or emailed by your counselor or registrar, mailed in an envelope sealed and stamped by the school, the Ministry of Education or EducationUSA, or hand-delivered unopened before classes (How to apply as an international student).
Timing
Unofficial records may be used for the admission decision; official records, with the translation, are due before the first day of classes (Admitted international students).
Transfer applicants
Nine or more university credit hours: an original NACES course-by-course evaluation for every post-secondary institution, sent with the transcript to Undergraduate Admissions (How to apply as an international student).
Country rule: China
Copies of records in Chinese and English certified by the school, in school-sealed envelopes; notarized copies are not accepted (country requirements).
Fee
USD $75 international application fee; Common App or OHIO's own application (How to apply as an international student).
Undergraduate and graduate rules differ
For undergraduates the rule is short: records from every secondary school you attended, and, if the original is not in English, a certified or attested English translation; transfers add the same translation to their post-secondary records (how to apply). Ohio University does not limit who may certify it.
The Graduate College uses a closed list.
If English was not the language of instruction, you submit the original-language document and an English translation, and only translations by the degree-issuing university, a NACES organization, an EducationUSA office or the Ministry of Education are acceptable unless a country page says otherwise (graduate international admissions).
The page for newly admitted graduate students repeats it (required documents).
For a graduate program, an eVerbary translation does not meet that rule; ask your university or a NACES evaluator for the translation, or have a NACES member evaluate your documents and send the evaluation, with verified copies, directly to the Graduate College.
Unofficial for the decision, official before day one
Ohio University decides on unofficial records, then wants official ones before classes start.
Official means one of four routes: uploaded through the Common App by your counselor or principal, emailed to admissions@ohio.edu by the counselor, principal or university registrar, mailed in an envelope sealed and stamped by the issuing school, your Ministry of Education or EducationUSA, or brought unopened to Undergraduate Admissions before classes (How to apply as an international student).
Admitted students are reminded that the official records need the certified or attested translation too (admitted students).
Upload the translation with the unofficial records so the decision is not delayed, and keep it with the official set.
The pages do not say whether the translation must travel inside the sealed envelope; if your school mails the official records, ask admissions@ohio.edu whether to send the translation separately.
Applicants from China follow a different path: records in Chinese and English certified by the school, in envelopes sealed by the school (country requirements).
Need a certified translation for Ohio University?

Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts, every school attended
- School leaving exam results and certificates
- University transcripts and degree certificates, for transfer applicants
- Grading scale or legend printed with the transcripts
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Ohio University
Upload the records and their translations to the applicant status portal, or email them to admissions@ohio.edu; postal mail goes to Undergraduate Admissions, Chubb Hall 120, Athens (How to apply as an international student).
eVerbary delivers the translation as a signed PDF you can upload; we can also email it directly to the admissions office on request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Ohio University that means we translate records for undergraduate admission; we cannot provide the translation the Graduate College requires (issuer, NACES, EducationUSA or Ministry), and the NACES course-by-course evaluation for transfers comes from an agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
What translation does Ohio University accept for undergraduate admission?
A certified or attested English translation; it does not say who must make it (How to apply as an international student). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
Can I use eVerbary for an Ohio University graduate program?
No. The Graduate College accepts translations only from the degree-issuing university, a NACES organization, an EducationUSA office or the Ministry of Education (Graduate College: international students).
Do transfer applicants need an evaluation?
Yes. With nine or more university credit hours you need an original NACES course-by-course evaluation for every post-secondary institution (How to apply as an international student).
Can I apply with unofficial records?
Yes, for the admission decision; official records are due before the first day of classes (How to apply as an international student).
I studied in China. What does Ohio University need?
Records in Chinese and English certified by your school, in envelopes stamped and sealed by the school; notarized copies are not accepted (Country-specific admissions requirements: C).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
