How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Bowling Green State University says every document must be official and in English, and counts as official an English translation that carries the official seal or stamp of the notary or the English translator on each document.

Bowling Green State University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; add notarization at checkout for $34.90 per order to give the translation a notary's seal.

BGSU does not require a credential evaluation; a NACES evaluation is accepted for graduate applicants, and evaluations are something we do not provide.

BGSU at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

BGSU's international admission requirements list, among official documents, an official English translation with the official seal or stamp of the notary or the English translator on each document (undergraduate requirements), and the graduate page uses the same rule (graduate requirements); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary, notarized at checkout, meets it. BGSU requirements in detail

Translation

All documents official and in English; an official English translation qualifies (International undergraduate admission requirements).

Who may translate

An English translator; the translation carries the official seal or stamp of the notary or the translator on each document (International undergraduate admission requirements).

What counts as official

One of: the original document, a notarized or attested copy, or that official translation; no photocopies or documents marked "Issued to Student" (International undergraduate admission requirements).

Originals

Documents cannot be returned; do not submit originals (International undergraduate admission requirements).

Undergraduate documents

Official secondary and post-secondary transcripts and English proficiency, all through the online application; $75 fee, no waivers (how to apply).

Graduate timing

Scanned official or unofficial transcripts to apply; upon admission, final official or notarized copies of transcripts and international diplomas (application instructions).

Evaluation

Not required; for graduate applicants, evaluations by a NACES member organization are accepted (Graduate application instructions).

Deadlines (undergraduate)

Spring 2027: November 6, 2026 (I-20 by November 20); fall 2027: June 18, 2027 (I-20 by July 2) (International undergraduate: how to apply).

A seal or stamp on each document

BGSU defines an official document narrowly and in three ways: the original, a notarized or attested copy, or an official English translation with the official seal or stamp of the notary or the English translator on each document.

It rejects photocopies and documents marked "Issued to Student" (undergraduate requirements).

The words "on each document" matter: a transcript, a diploma and a mark sheet each need their own sealed or stamped translation, not one statement for the set.

An eVerbary translation comes with a signed certificate of accuracy on letterhead. To add a seal, add notarization at checkout ($34.90 per order); a notary's seal is one of the two BGSU names.

If you are sending several documents, ask BGSU whether it wants each translation sealed separately before you order.

Undergraduate and graduate timing

Undergraduate applicants submit everything through the BGSU online application: official transcripts from secondary school and any post-secondary school, and proof of English proficiency; SAT or ACT scores only for merit scholarships, which are awarded automatically (International undergraduate admission requirements, how to apply).

Because BGSU keeps what you send, upload translations and notarized copies, not originals you will need later.

Graduate applicants apply with scanned official or unofficial transcripts and, once admitted, send final official or notarized copies of transcripts from every institution that awarded a degree, with the conferral dates, and diplomas from international institutions; all must then be official and in English, under the same seal-or-stamp rule (application instructions, graduate requirements).

BGSU accepts NACES evaluations at that stage but does not require one. Programs may add their own documents.

Need a certified translation for BGSU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificates
  • University transcripts and degree certificates
  • Diplomas from international institutions, for graduate admission
  • English proficiency documents not issued in English

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to BGSU

  • Upload the translations through the BGSU online application, which tells you how to submit transcripts to the Office of Admissions (International undergraduate: how to apply). Graduate applicants send the official or notarized copies after admission (Graduate application instructions).

  • eVerbary delivers a signed PDF and, when notarization is added, the notarized copy; we can also email the translation directly to the admissions office on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For BGSU that means we translate your records and, with notarization added, put a notary's seal on the translation; a NACES evaluation, if you choose to send one for graduate admission, comes from an agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does BGSU need a stamp on the translation?

Yes. It counts an English translation as official when it carries the official seal or stamp of the notary or the English translator on each document (International undergraduate admission requirements). eVerbary adds notarization for $34.90 per order.

Can I send a notarized copy instead of the original?

Yes. A notarized or attested copy is one of the official forms BGSU accepts; photocopies are not (International undergraduate admission requirements).

Will BGSU return my documents?

No. Documents cannot be returned, so do not submit originals (International undergraduate admission requirements).

Do graduate applicants need a credential evaluation?

No. BGSU accepts evaluations by a NACES member organization but asks for official or notarized transcripts and diplomas after admission (Graduate application instructions).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
