One court on Monroe Avenue hears the Memphis docket and the Louisville, Kentucky docket
EOIR lists the Memphis Immigration Court in Brinkley Plaza, 80 Monroe Avenue, Lower Level Suite G-10, open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Its administrative control list says that effective July 30, 2021 EOIR closed the Louisville Immigration Court and made it a hearing location under the Memphis court's administrative control, with hearing times in Eastern Time unless a notice says otherwise. EOIR gives the Louisville Hearing Location's address as 601 W. Broadway, Basement Room 3. The same list assigns the Memphis DHS sub-office, which covers Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi north of Jackson, to the court.
The court provides the interpreter for its hearings, at government expense (ICPM 3.10). Attorneys book us for what comes before them: settling which language the respondent and each witness actually speak before the interpreter request is filed, preparing witnesses to testify through the court's interpreter, and reading declarations back. A preparation session can have a lawyer in Memphis, a respondent in Louisville and a witness somewhere else; by video that is $80 an hour with no travel charge. See interpreters for immigration court hearings and for immigration attorney meetings.
Memphis's two largest hospital systems say their interpreters are free
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare says it provides free foreign-language interpreting to patients and caregivers with limited English proficiency, and that all patients have access to interpretation 24 hours a day at no personal cost; it posts its language-assistance notice in 15 languages, among them Amharic, Arabic, Gujarati and Lao (Methodist Le Bonheur). Regional One Health lists qualified interpreters among its free language services and gives 901-545-8196 for language assistance (Regional One Health).
If the appointment is at either system, ask the care team first; you should not be paying us for it. An interpreter for a lawyer's meeting with a client about an injury claim, or for a medical exam that an insurer or the other side arranges, is not part of a hospital's care and is booked by whoever holds the meeting. See interpreters for medical appointments. A two-hour meeting in person is $220; with a 30-mile round trip at $0.70 a mile, $241.
Fewer than one in ten Memphis residents speaks Spanish at home, and every other row is small
The Census counts 574,287 Memphis residents aged five and over. Of them, 508,464 speak only English at home and 48,116 speak Spanish, about 8%. The next row is the catch-all "Other and unspecified languages" (3,290), followed by "Other Indo-European languages" (3,042) and "Other Asian and Pacific Island languages" (2,311). Among named languages, Arabic (2,137, margin of error 793), Vietnamese (1,951) and French, Haitian or Cajun (1,683) lead (ACS C16001).
Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, French and Chinese, which means Mandarin or Cantonese, are at our standard rate. Amharic, which Methodist Le Bonheur includes among its posted languages, is a limited-availability language: 25–30% over the base, so $100–104 an hour by video. For any language other than Spanish, ask before the date whether it can be staffed in person in Memphis or only by video.

|---|---|---|
| One-hour video or phone call | 1 hour × $80 | $80 |

The quote confirms the interpreter, the exact travel figure and the total before you book; nothing is charged until you confirm.
How the travel charge works out
Travel is charged at $0.70 per mile from the interpreter's location, which means you can work it out rather than wait for a quote: a 20-mile round trip is $14, a 60-mile round trip is $42, a 150-mile round trip is $105. There is no separate call-out fee on top.
We will not pretend to know in advance where the interpreter will be coming from — that depends on the language, the date and the venue. What we do is confirm the interpreter and the exact travel figure before you book, so it is never a surprise on the invoice. Virtual assignments carry no travel charge at all, which is one reason most of what we do is virtual.
By video, by phone or in person
Virtual interpreting runs on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, or over the telephone. It is quicker to arrange, costs less and carries no travel charge, and it suits appointments, calls and most meetings.
In person is what venues with their own rules tend to expect, and the right choice when documents are being signed or several people are speaking at once. Tell us the platform, or the city and the venue, when you send the request.
How booking an interpreter works
- You send the request with the form below: the language, the setting, the format, the date and how long it should last.
- We confirm before you commit: the interpreter, the exact price and the travel figure if there is one. We reply within minutes, four business hours at most, and no payment is taken at this stage.
- You confirm and pay, and the interpreter is booked for your date. The interpreter's name and credentials are sent to you once the booking is paid.
What to have ready
The more of this comes in the first message, the fewer exchanges before you have a price:
- The language, the date, the start time and how long it should run.
- Virtual or in person: the platform, or the city and the venue.
- The setting and the subject matter.
- How many people need interpreting for.
- Any credential the venue requires of the interpreter. We confirm before you book whether we can staff it; the interpreter's name and credentials follow once the booking is paid.
