After Spanish, Charlotte's largest language is Telugu, ahead of French, Vietnamese and Chinese
Of 882,038 Charlotte residents aged five and over, 659,081 speak only English at home and 222,957 speak another language, according to the Census Bureau's 2024 estimate (ACS B16001). Spanish accounts for 138,660 of them. Telugu is second at 7,313, then French (5,722), Vietnamese (5,571), Chinese (4,975), Russian (4,444), Hindi (4,150), Gujarati (3,892) and Arabic (3,875).
Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, Hindi and Arabic are standard-rate languages for us. Telugu and Gujarati carry the limited-availability surcharge of 25–30%: $137.50 to $143 an hour in person, $100 to $104 by video, so give us more lead time. For Chinese, tell us whether the person speaks Mandarin or Cantonese, which the Census counts together. Atrium Health says its in-house interpreters speak mainly Spanish and that it reaches more than 200 languages by phone (Atrium Health).
Charlotte's federal venues bring their own interpreters; the work left for us is what comes before
At 5701 Executive Center Drive the immigration court provides the interpreter for the hearing at government expense, using staff, contract or telephone interpreters, and the request should be made no later than 30 days before (ICPM 3.10). Do not hire one for the hearing itself. The Western District's federal court provides interpreters for all criminal matters instituted by the United States, routinely for defendants and witnesses during pretrial and probation interviews and in court (W.D.N.C.); the Court Interpreters Act, which the federal courts' own page describes, covers judicial proceedings instituted by the United States (U.S. Courts).
Bankruptcy is the clearest case. The Bankruptcy Administrator for the Western District of North Carolina, whose district includes Charlotte, says it will provide certified interpreters, foreign or sign language, for 341 meetings of creditors at its own expense, that it is not appropriate for the debtor or the debtor's attorney to bring an individual to interpret, and that a request must be made at least 10 days ahead (341 Meetings). So do not book us for the meeting. Charlotte attorneys book us for the conversation before it, and before an immigration hearing: confirming what language and dialect a client and each witness speak, preparing testimony, reading a declaration back. Depositions, attorney meetings and USCIS interviews at the Regency Executive Park Drive field office are the other bookings; for a green card interview the applicant brings the interpreter.
What an interpreted appointment in Charlotte costs
A two-hour green card interview at the Regency Executive Park Drive field office is $220 in person; with a 20-mile round trip from the interpreter's location at $0.70 a mile, $234. A three-hour deposition with a 30-mile round trip is $330 plus $21, $351. A one-hour video call to prepare a client for a hearing is $80 and carries no travel. A two-hour video session in Telugu is $200 to $208. We quote within minutes, four business hours at most, and confirm the travel figure before you pay.

Where interpreters are needed in Charlotte, and who provides them
Some of these places must provide the interpreter themselves, and then you should not be paying for one. Where that is so, the official page is linked.
| Place | Who provides the interpreter |
|---|---|
| Charlotte Immigration Court, 5701 Executive Center Drive, Suite 400 | The court provides the interpreter for the hearing, at government expense (ICPM 3.10). Attorneys book their own for client preparation and witness meetings. |
| USCIS Charlotte Field Office, 201 Regency Executive Park Drive | USCIS does not supply one for a green card interview: an applicant who needs an interpreter brings one, who shows a government-issued ID, takes an oath and interprets word for word. |
| U.S. District Court, Western District of North Carolina, Charles R. Jonas Federal Building, 401 West Trade Street | The court provides interpreting and translating services for all criminal matters instituted by the United States, routinely for defendants and witnesses at pretrial and probation interviews and in court. The page does not describe private civil cases; ask the court before hiring one. |
| Bankruptcy Administrator, Western District of North Carolina (341 meetings of creditors) | Provides a certified interpreter, foreign or sign language, at its own expense, and says the debtor or attorney should not bring one; the debtor requests it at least 10 days ahead. |
| Atrium Health hospitals and clinics | Language assistance is free of charge: in-person or over-the-phone interpreting 24 hours a day, in-house interpreters mostly in Spanish, phone interpreting in more than 200 languages and American Sign Language. Ask when you schedule the visit. |

The quote confirms the interpreter, the exact travel figure and the total before you book; nothing is charged until you confirm.
How the travel charge works out
Travel is charged at $0.70 per mile from the interpreter's location, which means you can work it out rather than wait for a quote: a 20-mile round trip is $14, a 60-mile round trip is $42, a 150-mile round trip is $105. There is no separate call-out fee on top.
We will not pretend to know in advance where the interpreter will be coming from — that depends on the language, the date and the venue. What we do is confirm the interpreter and the exact travel figure before you book, so it is never a surprise on the invoice. Virtual assignments carry no travel charge at all, which is one reason most of what we do is virtual.
By video, by phone or in person
Virtual interpreting runs on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, or over the telephone. It is quicker to arrange, costs less and carries no travel charge, and it suits appointments, calls and most meetings.
In person is what venues with their own rules tend to expect, and the right choice when documents are being signed or several people are speaking at once. Tell us the platform, or the city and the venue, when you send the request.
How booking an interpreter works
- You send the request with the form below: the language, the setting, the format, the date and how long it should last.
- We confirm before you commit: the interpreter, the exact price and the travel figure if there is one. We reply within minutes, four business hours at most, and no payment is taken at this stage.
- You confirm and pay, and the interpreter is booked for your date. The interpreter's name and credentials are sent to you once the booking is paid.
What to have ready
The more of this comes in the first message, the fewer exchanges before you have a price:
- The language, the date, the start time and how long it should run.
- Virtual or in person: the platform, or the city and the venue.
- The setting and the subject matter.
- How many people need interpreting for.
- Any credential the venue requires of the interpreter. We confirm before you book whether we can staff it; the interpreter's name and credentials follow once the booking is paid.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Charlotte immigration court provide an interpreter?
Yes, for the hearing, at government expense, at 5701 Executive Center Drive (ICPM 3.10). Request it no later than 30 days before. Preparation with your attorney is not covered.
Do I bring an interpreter to a bankruptcy 341 meeting in Charlotte?
No. The Bankruptcy Administrator for the Western District of North Carolina provides a certified interpreter at its own expense and says it is not appropriate for the debtor or the debtor's attorney to bring one. Request it at least 10 days before the meeting (341 Meetings).
Where is the USCIS office in Charlotte, and do I bring an interpreter?
The Charlotte Field Office is at 201 Regency Executive Park Drive (USCIS). For a green card interview you bring the interpreter, who shows ID and takes an oath (USCIS Policy Manual).
How much is a Telugu interpreter in Charlotte?
Telugu is a limited-availability language for us: $100 to $104 an hour by video with a one-hour minimum, or $137.50 to $143 an hour in person with a two-hour minimum, plus $0.70 per mile of travel.
Is the price per person or per interpreter?
Per interpreter, per hour, billed from the scheduled start time. One interpreter covers a meeting; a full-day hearing may need two working in relay.
What if the venue provides its own interpreter?
Then you should not be paying us. Immigration court provides one, and hospitals and school districts frequently must. Ask them first.
Can I see the interpreter's credentials before I pay?
Tell us the credential the venue or the other side requires when you request, and we confirm before you book whether we can staff it. The interpreter's name and credentials are sent once the booking is paid.
How is travel charged?
$0.70 per mile from the interpreter's location — a 20-mile round trip is $14. We confirm the exact figure before you book, and virtual assignments carry none.
