Separación de cuerpos, then one year
Venezuelan practice uses separación de cuerpos heavily as the route to divorce: the spouses petition jointly, the court decrees the separation, and after one year without reconciliation either may ask for it to be converted into divorce.
So a Venezuelan file very commonly contains a separation decree and a later conversion, and the conversion is the document that ends the marriage. The separation alone leaves both parties married.
The 2015 constitutional decision changed the grounds
The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Tribunal held in 2015 that the statutory list of grounds for divorce was not exhaustive, opening divorce on the basis of an irretrievable breakdown asserted by one spouse. Later decisions went further.
The effect is that Venezuelan divorce decrees from different years rest on very different reasoning, and a decree citing a 2015 or 2016 decision rather than a Civil Code article is not defective. We reproduce the authority relied on.
The nota marginal, and where the record sits
The effect is recorded as a nota marginal on the acta de matrimonio held by the municipal civil registry, and a certified copy issued afterwards carries it.
