The five-point scale, and the reform years
Turkmen schools and universities grade on the five-point scale inherited from the Soviet system: 5 excellent, 4 good, 3 satisfactory, 2 fail. Some subjects are recorded as passed rather than graded. We translate each grade as printed with its word, and leave the conversion to the evaluator.
In 1996 the five-year Soviet degree was replaced by two years of study followed by two years of work, so a transcript from those years can look thin for a degree. Subjects of that period include the study of the Ruhnama. The translation shows what was taken; the evaluator decides what it amounts to. See our Turkmen university diploma page.
Russian, Cyrillic, and the first Latin alphabet
Transcripts issued before the mid-1990s are usually in Russian. Turkmen moved to the Latin alphabet in 1993, and until 1999 that alphabet used $, ¢, £ and ¥ as letters, so a transcript from those years can look like it is full of currency signs. They are letters, and we read them as such.
Hours and credits are kept as printed. See our Turkmen page and our Russian page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.
Frequently asked questions
Do you convert grades to a US GPA?
No. We translate the grades as printed; a credential evaluator does any conversion.
My transcript has a dollar sign in the middle of a word.
Turkmen Latin script used $ as a letter until 1999. We read it as the letter it stands for.
My degree took only two years of classes.
Between 1996 and the later reforms degrees combined two years of study with two of work. We translate the record as it stands.
Is acceptance by universities, colleges and schools guaranteed?
Yes. Our certified translations are guaranteed to be accepted by universities, colleges and schools in the United States — and by USCIS, the NVC, courts, government agencies and employers — or your money back. The guarantee covers the translation itself, not the original document or the admission decision, and it covers credential evaluation agencies such as WES and ECE as well. Full terms are in our refund policy.
