Wyoming Department of Transportation, Driver Services: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

No published rule: WYDOT says nothing on translating license or identity documents, so call Driver Services at 307-777-4800 before you order.

Who may translate: No published rule

How we know ยท policy checked on October 31, 2026

WYDOT publishes no rule on translations of license or identity documents: its document sheet for non-US citizens, its Driver Services pages and its Chapter 1 rules do not mention them.

That does not mean it refuses or accepts a translation, only that it has not said, so call Driver Services at 307-777-4800 before you order.

Foreign visitors may drive on a valid license from their country; WYDOT recommends an International Driving Permit but does not require it.

Does it accept eVerbary? No published rule

WYDOT publishes no rule, so nothing says whether it takes a translation from a professional service, eVerbary included (non-US citizen documents, Chapter 1 rules). Call 307-777-4800 before you order. Policy checked on October 31, 2026.

Worth knowing about Wyoming WYDOT

No translation rule

Nothing published for a foreign license, passport or marriage certificate.

IDP recommended

Visitors may drive on a valid home license; the permit is not mandatory.

Tests in English only

Tests and manuals are in English; interpreters are allowed except on CDL skills tests.

Wyoming WYDOT requirements in detail

Who may translate

No published rule and no translator list (WYDOT Rules Chapter 1, 2024 filing).

Foreign license, visitors

You may drive with a valid license from your country. An International Driving Permit is recommended, not mandatory (Driver Services).

Foreign license, new residents

You apply in person and have one year from establishing residency, sooner if your license is from one of several listed states or is commercial (Driver license and new residents). The page does not address licenses from other countries specifically.

Tests

A written test applies if you have never been licensed "in this or any other state" (Driver license testing); the page does not say how a foreign license counts. You bring your own vehicle to the skills test.

Test language

English is the only test language and manuals are printed only in English. An interpreter may be used for non-commercial written tests and for skills tests other than CDL (Driver license testing).

Identity and presence

An unexpired foreign passport, plus all documents showing legal presence, such as a valid US visa, I-94, I-20 or DS-2019 (Documents required for non-US citizens (form 00-2063)).

The statute requires the visa affixed and a document of your latest admission (W.S. 31-7-111, Wyoming Statutes Title 31, W.S. 31-7-111).

Name changes

Unaltered certified originals, certified amended originals or true copies certified by the issuer. Photocopies, notarized documents and online printouts are not accepted. A marriage certificate changes only the last name (Documents required for non-US citizens (form 00-2063)).

What the non-US citizen sheet asks for

Applicants who have not presented documents to Driver Services before bring proof of identity, every document showing legal presence, two proofs of residency no more than 45 days old, and any name change document (Documents required for non-US citizens (form 00-2063)).

WYDOT calls the sheet a courtesy, not all-inclusive, and reserves the right to ask for more. It does not say what happens when a document is not in English, so that is the question for Driver Services.

The word translate appears once on the Driver Services page, and not as a rule on your papers: the page says an International Driving Permit translates your license so authorities can read it (Driver Services).

An applicant without the standard proof of identity may offer alternative documents, which the Driver Services Program manager must approve first (Chapter 1, Section 4, WYDOT Rules Chapter 1, 2024 filing).

Temporary credentials and tests in English

Licenses or IDs for immigrants without permanent 10-year resident status are temporary, valid only for the period on the documents WYDOT verified, and marked with an NR suffix or "LIMITED TERM" (Chapter 1, WYDOT Rules Chapter 1, 2024 filing).

Immigration documents must be presented for every service (Documents required for non-US citizens (form 00-2063)).

Wyoming gives its tests only in English, so an interpreter is the one language accommodation the testing page describes: allowed on non-commercial written tests and on skills tests except for a CDL.

The written test can also be heard through a phone system by applicants who have difficulty reading (Driver license testing).

What to do in Wyoming

  • Call Driver Services at 307-777-4800 or write to drivercustomerservice@wyo.gov, the contacts on the non-US citizen sheet, and ask whether your document in another language needs a translation and of what kind.

  • Check your documents against the documents page: certified originals, no photocopies or notarized copies for a name change.

  • Apply in person at a Driver Services exam station; the Driver Services page has the map of locations.

  • If you need an interpreter, read the testing page and ask the office how to arrange one.

What we do not do

eVerbary translates documents; it is not the DMV and does not issue licenses, International Driving Permits or REAL ID decisions. For WYDOT Driver Services we do not issue licenses or International Driving Permits, and we do not get records from abroad.

Need a certified translation for another office?

A certified translation from eVerbary is still useful for a different office, such as USCIS or a court, which sets its own rules; see certified translation.

Frequently asked questions

Does Wyoming accept a translated foreign driver's license?

WYDOT publishes no rule either way (Chapter 1, document sheet). Call Driver Services at 307-777-4800 before you order a translation.

Can I drive in Wyoming on my foreign license?

Yes, as long as you have a valid license from your country (Driver Services).

Do I need an International Driving Permit in Wyoming?

It is recommended but not mandatory; WYDOT says it translates your license so authorities can read it (Driver Services).

Can I take the Wyoming test in another language?

No. English is the only test language, but you may use an interpreter on non-commercial written tests and on skills tests other than CDL (Driver license testing).

Does a foreign license waive the Wyoming tests?

The testing page does not say how a foreign license counts, and WYDOT names no exchange agreement with any country on the pages we read (Driver license testing). Ask Driver Services.

Can I use a notarized copy to prove a name change?

No. WYDOT does not accept photocopies, notarized documents or online printouts for a name change (Documents required for non-US citizens (form 00-2063)).

Need a certified translation for another office?

A certified translation from eVerbary is still useful for a different office, such as USCIS or a court, which sets its own rules; see certified translation.
